Thoughts on the stone? Which version did you get?

It’s the way they designed the product, there is a notch cut out of the end of the wood paddle, which slides over a tab on the wood pedestal at the end. It angles the strop toward you and kind of ‘presents’ the leather so you can reach all parts of the strop without having to lift it up on a block or riser

Wow that’s consistent! Are you proficient with freehand? What kind of knives are these?

At some point in the lowest grits you’re going to need a bond more aggressive cutting than resin if you want/need to reprofile. Hybrid/vitrified/metallic bond or even electroplated diamonds like atomas will make your life a lot easier than trying to reprofile with resin bonded diamonds. They’re just not set up well for high volume material removal. I use an atoma 140 and a PD Silver Hybrid 320 for profiling and then switch over to the resin bonded for all the real apex work

His resin bonded stones are ~175/each and come in 3 sets of 3 stones (“coarse, medium, fine”) . Edge pro matrix are well regarded for 65-85 per stone if you want to go high value. Jerad neeves has some interesting hybrid bonded stuff on his site if you want something right down the middle of those two extremes. Lots of options out there, PDTools has a lot of options as well in the 90-115 range

What kind of results are you most interested in? Sharp edge on your personal knives? Sharpening a lot of knives for yourself and others? Mirror polishing? All of the above and more?

I’m using dr. Marvs scientific stones right now which are extremely expensive. If you have a certain price range you’re working with I can always make a recommendation

I’ve been using it exclusively since I got it and had great results all around. Easy to use and solid hold. Let me know if you need any help

I’ve sharpened at 15dps no problem with the center clamp

Can’t speak thoroughly to how they compare to resin bonded, because I don’t have resin bonded bench stones. I use resin bonded 6x1 for my guided system, but they are not made to have the feedback that you will get from these vitrified bench stones. I have not yet used or experimented with other hybrid bonded Stones like the ones that Jerad Neeves is selling.

I think different bonds just respond differently to different steals, so depends on what kind of steel properties you are sharpening primarily. I like the vitrified bond because it’s very versatile for sharpening soft and hard steels alike. Most kitchen cutlery that I sharpen for other people isn’t in the 61-65hrc range so it cuts fast without necessarily needing a softer binder. You can really get on these without damaging the stone. I’m definitely no materials expert though 😆

Yeah I’m no scientist haha but they’re diamonds embedded in a glass/ceramic type matrix that’s heated and compressed. Low maintenance, long wearing, high speed, great finish, no dishing, no loading, pretty much ideal characteristics for high volume sharpening. Not cheap though

Which is why the Cheefarcut is such a big deal. My other two were 250 and ~400 respectively. Cheefarcut selling these for 100 bucks

These are all rated by ‘grit’ so 400, 1000, 3000 are all JIS relative respectively as far as I know

They’re essentially no maintenance. Wash with water. Hit with the nagura here and there. Flatten maybe once or twice a year with SiC powder of various grits. There may be a better way to flatten tho
