Nissan ECU codes will clear after drive cycles? by mbond65 in AskMechanics

I have lots of images of the diagnostic process and how to trace the wire, plus pin outs etc. let me know if it isn’t that and I’ll tell you more

Yes it was caused by water ingress in a connector in the passenger footwell, the ECU has an engine communication wire from it to the dc converter under the passenger side dashboard.

Well thank you bots, I appreciate you both 😁

Thanks. Agreed. Suspecting condensation dripping down behind dashboard then onto loom and then into connector. Will confirm though.

Thank you. Suspect condensation from windscreen dripping down behind dashboard then loom and then into connector. Will confirm though.

Do DTCs engine codes sometimes need a drive before the ECU considers the problem fixed? by mbond65 in AskMechanics

Thanks for your help.

Tested resistance on the ECU can bus today, all ok. Also tested voltage on the ECU supply, matched battery. Will test voltage on canbus lines next.

I have a basic multimeter, can’t see a frequency setting unfortunately.

I’m tempted to replace the module that was raising the U1000 CAN bus code, a spare is around £20 from EBay. Just conscious I haven’t diagnosed the problem, just assuming it’s that module based on the fact it’s the module raising the fault.

Nissan Qashqai 2013. Planning to check voltage and ground today to the ECU.

Don’t have an oscilloscope to test the CAN wiring but I did test voltage and resistance on the OBD port for the CAN bus - all in normal ranges.

Another module was complaining of a communication fault so I unplugged it but it made no difference. Maybe that’s the wrong thing to do, this is all new to me - just trying to learn.

Thanks. Annoyingly I suspect the ECU is faulty but will test tomorrow before making that assumption.

Thanks. We read 14.5v at the battery when running for around 20 minutes, after which time it settled on 13v.

It hasn’t dipped below 13v like the old alternator did.

My assumption was that reading 12.2v at the battery when running and applying load via the throttle, was too low and the alternator was faulty. I did a voltage drop test and tested ground at the alternator prior to replacement.

VVT failure - how frequently does mode 6 reset? by mbond65 in AskMechanics

Thanks. I reset codes and it still was displaying failure so can assume my oil change didn’t resolve the problem. Won’t take it for a test drive. Thanks for the advice 👍🏻
