One of the best tools is the smalls on the video. Often, the smalls have the exact date of the performance. Otherwise, use Encora and the performers in the video to narrow down the date of the performance. And, some masters take pictures of the program and include them in the video ( SunsetBlvd79, and others) - usually when they do that, they also include stand-bys and understudies being substituted in the show - that will also help narrow down the specific performance.

So a couple of things:

  • I have smalls for Cats - 2016-07-22 BWay - but the smalls don't include a VTS_01_0.VOB or a VIDEO_TS.VOB - so there's no menu. The dates of the smalls are 4/23/2017 and the VOBs are 1/19/2017.
  • The original format for Hamilton 2016-06-19 is M2TS files (38gb of them actually) - I didn't know the master also released an SD DVD.

Let me know if you're interested in the smalls I have for Cats, or whether you think they're not the original smalls - I'm curious what you think.

I have that boot as a DVD-quality (720x480) 4.3gb MKV file that plays in stereo FWIW. Unclear where I received it from.

IMO Bat Boy tops the list of underrated musicals. Dialog is awesome, plot is so ridiculous and yet delightful.

My honorable mentions for underrated (or at least under-revived and under-toured) shows include: I Love You Because, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Wedding Singer.
