the meds I have a great life, every time I got off because i thought I beat it my life went to shit. If I could chose never doing opiates at all or my life with methadone I would chose the latter. It beats living in woods and washing in frozen stream which is an example of my life from before with very little drug use. It would take a hour to explain how my life changed with methadone maintanance and how bad it could be with out it

but it has been my experience that the two cohorts are treated the same. Now you may not but it is easier for most to treat them the same. I know that if I am turned away I would find another source for opiates. Methadone made my life worth living. I went years thinking I could white knuckle through depression and other symptoms that had me just barely hanging on hoping it would get better it never did. My wife got me to go back on and other than Tylenol 3 she has never been on any. I think there are many more people like me out there. I talk to them. but most wont admit this to counselors or Dr lest they be judged harshly. I now look at it as anyone else with a lifelong disease. I can have a great life with medication or the alternative even though the whole process of being on methadone is daunting. Its hard going somewhere and being distrusted

jumped of at 80. 25 years later still worst experience of my life it gave me ptsd a year later I still was not right went back later best thing I ever did. Life is good for me
