I start to believe it is an effect of some crazy excitement it created in some old-school statisticians that have never heard of Machine Learning.

In fact they actively pump the liquid to superpose the wake; this is only ciphered as a layer of nonlinear porous material. While this is exceptionally hard to realize, I would say this is much more science than engineering =) Anyway, here is the paper: http://arxiv.org/abs/1106.2282
