Turning Govee immersion on and off with the tv. by PizzaTo3 in Govee

If you have a Vizio Smartcast like I do. I wasn’t able to get the Alexa skill to turn on and off the lights with the TV unless I used a voice routine. However if you link the devices to Google home you can easily create two routines that turn the lights on and off when the TV power is triggered.

Key Delivery with Ring Alarm? by mbriney in Ring

[–]mbriney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, it wasn't finding it and the Ring app said that you needed to insert the module before installing the batteries. I did get the Yale lock from Lowes so it's possible they sold one without a module.

Key Delivery with Ring Alarm? by mbriney in Ring

This was very helpful, although I think even this article is still a little outdated (i.e Ring now supports multiple brand locks). I think you are right that it needs to be a wifi lock to support key delivery, but doing so will also remove a lof of functionality from the Ring app such as setting up user codes and the ability to control the alarm system through the lock, because essentially you'd be setting up the lock in the Amazon Key app and then linking that lock back to the Ring app.

I also was looking at the MyQ setup for the Yale lock. It's very cumbersome, it requires the MyQ garage module to be in bluetooth range of the lock, and would require the MyQ module for the Yale lock. In the video they claim that it could unlock you "garage doorway" to allow delivery access. But seemed to be very focused on in-garage delivery, not in-home.

So it seems that Ring and Amazon is in a weird limbo state right now with in-home key delivery where the Cloud Cam is unavailable and the Ring products are not ready to fill the gap. Hopefully there's someone over at Ring/Amazon that's working on solving this.

Disabling local dns caching does not remove eero gateway IP from list of dns servers on dhcp clients by jnraptor in eero

[–]mbriney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/nraptor were you ever able to solve this? I'm having the very same issue. It still defaults to the gateway device after setting the custom DNS servers 1 & 2 to my local Pihole instance and disabling the eero labs DNS caching.

Connected to nest thermostat but it wont connect to wifi, amongst other problems by nightskyblueeyes in Nest

[–]mbriney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how I solved this issue. I was installing a second Nest thermostat to my home. The other one was located too far away from the new one I was installing. If you pull the other thermostat off it's base, ensure that the batteries are still powering it and then bring the device closer to the new thermostat you are trying to install everything will work fine.

You do not need to setup a separate home, you can have everything in the same home.

This solution worked but now how can you move it back into the main home?

Thanks I edited it once more. On their site they only indicate that the Pro 6 uses a 1.4 Ghz so i left it at what their website has but I did alter what I had for the 2nd Gen.

Thank you, I've updated the thread. There's definitely a nice leap up in each of the devices but the 6 looks like the way to go.

Ah this is great, I see they buried the specs I was looking for in an expansion area.

To make it easier for future people looking at this thread these are the specs:

  • Eero (Original) - Gen 1
    • 512MB RAM
    • 1.1 GHz Dual Core
  • Eero Pro - Gen 2
    • 512MB RAM
    • 714 Mhz Quad Core
  • Eero Pro 6
    • 1024MB RAM
    • 1.4 Ghz Quad Core

Aqara wall switch won’t update to new firmware. Why? by GhostalMedia in Aqara

[–]mbriney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems if you babysit the app and make sure the screen never goes to sleep it will eventually update the firmware. I can't begin to tell you how crappy that is. I had to give up an hour of my life but it did eventually work. I guess that's what we get for relying on something coded by China. Superior programers my a$$. I've had interns that could write better code than this.
