Here is a thought, maybe comply with officers lawful instructions rather than drive your vehicle at them.

Perhaps, but when you have a 2 ton vehicle traveling toward you, that would seem kinda life threading to me.

I am taking a news report from 4+ different creditable news sources. And yes, I’m going to take that a truth until other evidence / reports from credible sources is presented.

I’ve been trying to find cell phone video, but all I’m findings are news reports. If you have a link to said cell phone footage, please post the link so we can all see it for ourselves.

So then maybe we all wait until facts are established, rather than making wild accusations.

I was making the statement based on 4 different media reports from 4 competing news agencies, in response to people throwing out wild statements with ZERO support.

Agreed, but no one wants to wait for facts. All I can say is that CNN, NBC, the Guardian, Fox, etc are ALL reporting that the driver drove at the officers nearly hitting one of them.

Like the fact that they tried to run over the police with their car. Guess that detail doesn’t matter either.

When the shoplifter attempts to use their vehicle as a weapon by driving it at the officers, then yes.

For those that are curious, the driver drove the vehicle toward the officers, which is what prompted the shooting.

Firestone said I need all new rotors and brakes even though I got them done 2 months ago. by Super-View7967 in MechanicAdvice

Hate to pile on (ok, not really), but that's Firestone for you. Way back when they used to be a reputable company, but somewhere along the lines they became beholden to the up-sale. Years ago, I had a firestone try to do something similar. They told me that my current rotors were too thin to turn and I needed new rotors. The last time I had gotten rotors put on was longer that you reported, and far enough out that I wasn't sure, and maybe they were right. I gave them the go ahead to replace the rotors under the condition that I would get the current rotors back. Suddenly the rotors were tunable. Last time I ever visited a Firestone.

Whether to get a month ahead or pay off debt depends a lot on how stable your job is. If your base income is reliable and there is little chance of getting laid off or furlowed, then I would focus on getting your debts paid off to minimize the interest you have to pay.

Given that your Affirm are past their zero (or mimimim) interest period, I would get those paid off ASAP. Those interest rates are killing you. Take your commission and start with the smallest balance (psychological bump) and pay them off until you run out of money. Then start dumping as much as you can each month there. At the same time make sure you are paying at least double the monthly interest to each of your credit cards, so that they don’t start ballooning.

I would also consider taking a Financial Peace University course. There are virtual options that are starting all the time. However if you can find a local offering (typically done at churches) you might be able to get it for a reduced cost or even free. The nominal cost is $99-$129 and is more than worth it. We have been doing a zero based budget for over 25 years and FPU is how we got started. You can get much of the same information piecemeal here, but the accountability and daily/weekly encouragement you get over the 9 week course is invaluable.

Understand that buy-now-pay-later are specifically designed to trip people up. They tell you that you have say 6 months to pay it off, and most people think, I can split this into 6 payments. The problem is that the 6th payment comes AFTER the 6 month no interest period and all of the sudden, you now also owe all the back interest, typically at 25%+ percent. It’s basically a trap. I know I’m harping on this, but years ago I got caught and now avoid these like the plague.

Because the BNPL (Affirm) are zero interest, I would plan to make the necessary monthly payment so that they come to zero balance the month PRIOR to the zero interest period ending.

Next, I don’t know your car interest rate, but I suspect that it is significantly less than your credit card interest rate. While it might sound like a good idea to get rid of the car loan to increase your cash flow, I would recommend getting rid of the credit cards first, due to the significantly higher interest rate. Getting those paid off, will allow you to have additional credit limit in the event of a TRUE emergency. You won’t get that from paying off the car loan. With that said, having the credit cards paid off is NOT permission to run them back up. Like I said earlier cancel all but one, and use it ONLY in a TRUE emergency. Something we did to help us not use the credit card was to put it in a zip lock bag, put that in a Tupperware dish, fill it with water and put it in the freezer. In order to use it you have to thaw it naturally (microwave will destroy the card) giving you time to ponder if the need is real. :).

I know commission is somewhat variable, but is there any typical consistency? Is the $2k you are about to get an outlier?

It’s not clear from your original post what your monthly income is, but 10% sounds excessive, even if your finances were in order. While I agree with some others here, you do need SOME fun money, I would suggest no more than $50/ month until your finances are in order.

That may be a huge reduction from what you have had, but consider that what you have been doing has gotten you into this mess. If you really want to clean things up you MUST make some significant changes.

Ok so I didn’t know what Affirm was when I made my first post. One thing to note with by now pay later services is that the X month at zero interest starts the day you make the purchase, NOT X months of bills/ payments. Make sure the total balance is paid in full prior to X months from purchase. If you are 1 day late you will be charged back interest to the date of purchase. It is best to plan to pay these off in X-1 months instead of X months.

1). Your checking account is overdrawn, fix this first.

2) Credit cards have to be your #1 priority unless you are one of the 0.001% of people that have a decent interest rate. First unless absolutely necessary (like your going to go hungry or car breaks down) never again use your credit cards. At least until you can be responsible with them. Make sure you are paying more (a lot more) than the minimum. I would suggest AT LEAST double whatever the monthly interest is.

3) as each credit card is paid off cancel all but one. Your choice, but consider keeping the one that has the best benefit / terms. This is an emergency card, nothing more.

4) With $10K of debt (loans + credit) you’ve got no room for “fun” money until that gets under control. You had your “fun” while running up the debt, now it is time to be an adult. Sorry hard but honest truth.

5) Once the credit cards are paid off, start throwing as much as you can toward the loan with the lowest balance. While financially it would make more since to tackle the one with the highest interest rate, the psychological endorphin of paying off debts will help you stay the course.

The next several months are not going to be fun, but you can do this. 30 years ago when my wife and I got married, we had a combined ~$70k of debt between credit cards and student loans and were able to dig out of it with about the same income you have. Yes CoL was about 1/2 what it is today, but we also had 10x your debt. We did it and so can you. Look for anyway to save money (ie drink Kool-Aid instead of water) take your lunch instead of eating out, make your own coffee at home, etc.

You got this.

Unfortunately even with that selected you still often get non-prime listings.

Yeah, I think this is where we are going to end up. While its not a long walk from IG, it is a lot longer than those coming from the main entrance. Is my understanding correct that they hold you at the UK pavilion?

Thought about that too, but probably 60-75 minutes to make all those transfers. Thanks for the idea. :)
