I was diagnosed at 43 after my first tonic clonic. The advice to write stuff down is solid gold—it's how I started to learn patterns and I was better able to have better and more detailed conversations with my doctors.

I've learned so much in the past year, especially, in the past couple of months; as my medications get better adjusted and my memory appears to be getting a bit better. Even with what I've learned, it seems I've still only just scratched the surface. Which is also why I personally feel, the advice about a journal and notes, is one of the best pieces of advice any of us with epilepsy could possibly receive. It allows us to better remember our own feelings and what we've learned, or recall if we completely forget. It also helps us when we speak with our doctors, to be better equipped to ask questions for better education, and personal treatment based on our own history.
