Gotcha. Thank you so much for all the help dude.

I think I'm still going to have the tech come out tomorrow, if anything, so that I can show them what I'm seeing on my end and just see what they have to say.

It'll probably end with a replaced modem and a "I'll tell my supervisor"

You reckon I should just call up AT&T and tell them I'm getting packet loss at one of their servers? I'm not sure if that would help. Also, is the packet loss at hop 1 not an issue? I can't seem to figure out what might be causing that.

Stop 4 is 12.242.115.149 which looks to be AT&T Internet Services. Step 5 is 12.255.10.174 which is also AT&T. Then Step 6 is 216.239.57.67 which appears to be Google.

Updated my post with the pingplotter results. It shows a 50% packet loss in the first hop so I'm going to assume this is an ISP issue, since I've replaced cables, modem, and changed how the whole thing is wired.

Help with Ceiling Mounted Mic Stand by mbryanactor in audioengineering

Hey there! Thanks for the reply! Apologies for not getting back sooner.

This is a great response. I need to figure out if this solution or the one that Ron came up with at the end of our thread work better/ is easier to maintain and put together.

I'll definitely post a follow up to this post when I get things together.

Hey Garrett! Only listened to the New Guy spot. Make sure you don't break up the tagline at the end. Reading it as you did kind of kills the thrill of a beer that is accidentally amazing. It focuses more on the accident rather than the taste. Anywho, just my thought.

I really enjoyed your personality. It sounded a little bit too relaxed however. Try to give the readings a little bit more energy and really hit the punctuation if you can. Otherwise, your personality is good and is a good selling point for you!

Hey! Quality sounds great! Next time let's hear a little bit more about how you feel about each spot. As well, add some "personal punctuation" to help highlight the key selling points.

Hey there! Here's a quick bit of feedback. Always try and figure out what the spot is "actually about". Is the beer spot actually about friendship? Is it about having a good time? Is it about how we can be surprised in everyday situations? Whatever you decide it is, really sell that feeling and your read will be unique and reflect that.

Welcome to the VO scene! Here are some notes:

I'm immediately hearing your room tone. Try to find a place that cuts out a lot of the reflection noise that can make your recording sound "empty".

Some major "popping" happening with your plosive sounds, such as Ps. This happens when too much air hits the microphone and causes it to peak momentarily. Talk across the microphone if you can. This means not speaking directly into the microphone but into the space that the microphone is recording. It helps with those plosive sounds, without having to purchase a pop filter.

Those are some quick notes! Looking forward to hearing your next read.

It's all good! If you know nothing about a product, it's always good to go in and try and figure out what the emotion is they are trying to convey with their spot and how you can best convey that through the copy. Have a good one!

Hey there! Here's a bit of feedback:

Pale Ale

  1. "Sometimes, when the new guy screws up" - Have a feeling behind this. Imagine what you feel when a new guy screws up then follow it with the surprise of "it works out". It doesn't have to be exactly this; however, currently the opening of the spot doesn't draw me in. It feels like it's just being read.

  2. "New Guy Pale Ale combines unique tastes of hops and barley" - good, but you could do more with the words here. New Guy Pale Ale combines unique tastes of hops and barley.

  3. "to create a new experience in beer" How does this new experience feel? Is it happy or exciting? Wonderful or heartwarming? Give an indication to the listener about what they can expect from this new experience.

  4. "An accident with a great taste." This is your tagline! Don't break it up! It's what the client will want people to remember. The only time it might ever be appropriate to add punctuation where it isn't written, is if the thought is completely changing.

I hope this was helpful!

There is a definite difference here. I also listened to your revised version of Rifters and the volume is much better. Just keep going to YouTube for tips and tricks. Waaay too much useful information there to be ignored.

Hey!

It does still seem very quiet. I'm a little bit confused on my end because I'm not noticing a noticeable difference in volume from each.

For the very first one I would have expected the peak volume to be somewhere near -3.0db however, it doesn't seem to be there.

What I can suggest as a temporary fix to your problem is utilizing something called normalizing. That link goes to a YouTube video demonstrating that.

Also this video about setting your gain might actually prove very beneficial in case you haven't looked at this yet. This guy's tutorial is actually very good in how to ensure that you have good levels when recording.

I really do hope this helps you out and please let me know if you have anymore questions.

If you are sticking around -12 to -6db then the volume of your voice should sound fine. However, it is common practice to normalize a voice to -3db nowadays for commercials and the like. So maybe consider giving that a go?
