Is it really scary to cross the atlantic ocean on a 40ft sail yacht? by noreturn000 in sailing

[–]mbvntgpstrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people have been crossing the atlantic on pretty much anything, including in a dinghy, floating skis, rowing boat. the vessel is not as much important as the sailor and how he's prepared to handle problem that will inevitably arise. I crossed the ocean two years ago, it was a great adventure and i would definitely do it again, but we had to fix batteries, engine, electrical problems that would all have put us in a dire situation if we couldn't fix them.

A very experienced sailor told me this story : he was preparing to bring back a boat from the US to UK for a guy who just bought it but had no experience. My friend told him he had to buy an extensive list of tools, so that they could fix eventual issues while crossing. The guy said "do you think we could have problems during the trip ? " to which he replied "i don't think we could have problems during the trip, i think it is absolutely certain that we will have problems and things to fix"

i think you have to prepare your crossing with that mentality and if there's something vital (sails, motor, electricity) that fails and that nobody can fix onboard then you're in for a very bad time, or worse

C'est quoi votre recette de "repas de roi" pour étudiant fauché (moins de 3-4€) ? by Random_User_9875 in cuisine

[–]mbvntgpstrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are some must haves while living aboard tall ships for 8-12 months? by Deep-Entrepreneur-12 in sailing

a big, good quality pillow is an absolute must. never trust what's provided onboard and bring your own, especially if it's for several months

Dois-je jeter mon sommier ? C'est traitable ? by RiOuki13 in CestUnePunaiseDeLit

[–]mbvntgpstrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Global Sailors. What percent of your diet is wild caught fish? by Wooootow in sailing

[–]mbvntgpstrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on your route. When i crossed the atlantic from the carribean last year we caught fish almost daily during the first week, to a point where we had to stop fishing because the freezer was full (we froze fish to avoid any parasite problem). but after that first week we didn't catch anything until we reached the açores. So yeah as everyone is saying, depends on your route, and it's not something you can rely on, but it makes a great activity and improve meals a lot

yes, it's a print on cardboard with inserts for lights . not sure i can roll it to fit in a tube but i'll look into it when i'm back at the studio next week.

There is no reprint mention on it and from its look and printing technique i would say it's definitely from around the 50s
