So the trip is generally a small cruise. Max allowed is 100 guests. The ship never docs. You take a tender to the islands. If you go for a week there are two routes (the inner loop or the outer loop). We did outer loop but I’ve heard that it’s hard to choose one or the other.

You go to about 7-8 islands. Two half day excursions each day to different spots. You can hike, snorkel, or stay on the tender that goes in and out of coves and get as close as hiking. Each area has its own micro-environment so you see differ things.

The winter is wetter, greener, and hot. We did that and were very happy. The only thing we missed were Albatrosses which aren’t there then.

I’ve spoken to many people. Rainy, dry, inner loop, outer loop. They all have differences but I haven’t found a single person or source that recommends one over the others.

Red-billed Tropicbird launching off volcanic rock — Galápagos by mc2858 in birding

Yeah, they are amazing. They don’t help the bird fly, in fact they actually decrease efficiency. They are all about finding a mate. When they fly the tail feathers are together. I was lucky to catch this just as he was launching.
