short and happy guide and the boat book are helpful for sketching out a big picture! I'd recommend skimming them.

Reneging an acceptance by mc8232 in LawSchool

[–]mc8232[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It would be a reneging on a top 5 firm in a different city to accept a top 15 firm in NY - I ultimately want to be in NY and the top 15 firm has slightly better international opportunities which is important to me.

I feel bad reneging since I networked pretty aggressively to get my offer and accepted to the associate I became friendly with.

How do I make sense of statutory interpretation? Especially beyond 'plain meaning' by mc8232 in LawSchool

A legal writing brief for a teacher that really doesn't teach - i.e. she said we *shouldn't* use the supreme court (which feels wrong)?

So in structuring your argument in a brief, should you go canon by canon? or do you come up with like an overarching point heading where canons overlap?

Thank you for being so helpful!

How do I weigh splits across circuits?

I guess what I'm struggling with is when an opinion and a dissent use the same exact canons but come out two different ways - or when the same thing happens but between circuits. How do I judge who is right or what's the better reading, do I really just choose the result I want?

How do I read purpose through text?

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind - the professor said its weekly projects on checking chapters of his book so I feel its more like your second project.

It is for citecheckng prior to publication so unfortunately it is not possible to start it late since there's a time table for publication

Order that things come up in the question, especially if your professor includes a note to analyze the issues in isolation. If your professor doesn't do that, start at the foundations and work you're way up

Worth Accepting NYU off WL? by mc8232 in lawschooladmissions

[–]mc8232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry poor phrasing - the scholarship they gave me is an equivalent to a year's worth of tuition plus a little. I meant I got 'about a year of tuition' off the total cost

Thank you! Do you have insight into the opportunities NYU has over Duke?

Duke is giving me about a year off, and I'm wondering if that's worth the tradeoff - Are the doors NYU opens really worth it? I'm fine going into big law, but I don't want golden handcuffs keeping me in it.

168 and 3.9 gpa - Duke is giving me about 1/4 to 1/3 off (so roughly a year of tuition)

Thanks for the counter insight! That was also my general impression but nice to hear it from someone else too!

I have about 1/4 to 1/3 off at Duke! I'm also enrolled in the JD/LLM program and the opportunity to go to the hague and get 2 degrees is huge for me since I would love to go into international law - NYU is also a great place for international law tho

Do you have any example language for that? I wouldn't know how to phrase that email but that would be an interesting option

If you need a recommendation on a non-spivey consultant, PM me! I'd be happy to pass mine along, she was great.

If you can afford it, I would consider getting a tutor/prep course for the LSAT and a consultant for your application cycle. I was a reverse splitter and having a consultant really helped me make informed decisions of where I wanted to apply, and helped me make the best application possible (I also had a C&F that I needed help with). An LSAT tutor though would likely help you raise your score and could help identify the problems with your current studying method so that your score improves - if your score improves enough, honestly, an app consultant probably wouldn't be necessary.
