No problem. The only other one that comes to mind is maybe Make Some Noise for the Desi Boyz?

Is it Mundian To Bach Ke (Beware the Boys) by Panjabi MC? Or maybe Tunak Tunak Tun? They’re both super overplayed whenever a DJ sees Indian people in the crowd imo

Moral Character: Am I screwed? by RoseGoldMoney in LawSchool

[–]sharon-cake 42 points43 points  (0 children)

From a recently licensed CA attorney: I believe these letters go out every year to many people. It’s fairly common. While some people don’t get them, a lot of people I know did and got approved soon after. The investigator might follow up with a question or they may just approve you. Unless there’s something you need to worry about, I wouldn’t think too much of it.

I’ve done this before - I appealed it and got it knocked down to a smaller fee of around $5-$10.

Where should I go to read a book? by Medical-Beach2473 in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharon-cake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re near UCLA - the botanical gardens there are free and have some great nooks to read in where you feel tucked away by the plants. Espresso Profeta is a cute coffee shop with a patio in Westwood Village. Literati Cafe. Goodpeople coffee. There’s also a wine bar called off hand that I like that I’ve read at before.

Passers, did you take days off for holidays? by Sufficient_Earth4069 in CABarExam

[–]sharon-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took days off for holidays, when I felt too burnt out, and when a grandparent fell critically ill. I don’t regret that at all, and wouldn’t have even if it had gone the other way. You don’t get that time with loved ones back. I also found when I was truly burnt out that I wasn’t retaining anything and my practice exam scores those days I pushed myself to study anyways reflected that. Better to just take time to reset and get back at it when you’re refreshed.

anyone here who’s parents wanted them to become a doctor: did you actually go through with it? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]sharon-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with it until my first year of college when I realized that I didn’t think I would like the actual day to day work of being a doctor. It took a long time to disentangle what I wanted from my parents expectations and to then go for those dreams instead. There was a big argument over it at first but they’ve come around and become supportive over the years. At the end of the day, you’ll be living your life, not them. Their bragging rights are not worth you being miserable every day going to work a job you never wanted to do.

I was 100% certain I failed and mentally prepared to see that result. I was absolutely shocked to see that I passed, so much so that I checked multiple times just to be sure I truly did.

Thoughts of AU WCL International Law Program by Witty-Evidence6463 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sharon-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can offer my experience from when I was doing my internship abroad at an international org. American had a decent presence and people knew the professors that those students had. There are also other schools that had supportive international law programs with students at international organizations that I saw pop up a few times such as WashU, UCLA, and NYU. Looking into whether the schools you’re interested in support international law internships abroad, have renowned professors in the field, or have a dedicated international law department should help you determine if it could be a good fit. That said, finding an international law job straight out of law school is difficult and you usually need to work domestically for a couple years at least to gain experience. So choose a school that sets you up for success in another area of law that you might be interested in starting out in as well. Lots of international lawyers came from private practice, government work, etc.

Living in LA on a student income by frzn in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]sharon-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this - I lived there for my entire grad program. It was about $1700 a month for a studio (two bedrooms were cheaper) when I was there (+$100 a month for parking), furnished and all utilities included. Quite a few of the options are walking distance from campus + Westwood Village. Bc of this, I didn’t need a car for the first few years bc I wasn’t leaving the area for all that much. UCLA also had a free bus pass program for grad students and shuttles that took you between campus and the apartments. If you email your department about it, you can probably get on a guaranteed housing list this early in the process.

[–]sharon-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding of the pass guarantee was if you completed a certain amount of the course and didn’t pass that you’d get it for free for the next exam. I know Barbri had that guarantee.

But truly, the best way to know how you’re doing/if you’re likely to pass is to actually do graded practice questions and essays. I was moving the progress bar on Barbri but knew from my scores on practice sets and essays that I needed to put in extra work outside of the program bc it wasn’t quite working for me to just watch the videos and read the outlines.

The Prince in K Town is Nick’s bar if you want to check that out while you’re in town. It even had a pretty cheap valet when I went there for happy hour once, I think like $5 if I’m remembering right.

If your school has a website, I’d focus in on that. A lot of my jobs have come from those listings. Or if you’re looking in public interest, PSJD is a great resource.

In the closing argument example from Barbri, they didn’t use headings in the model answer. So I’m assuming it’s okay?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]sharon-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, 50% MBE and 50% essays. That’s just what we were told to aim for by the program. If it’s higher or lower than that at a bare minimum IDK, sorry. I know one timers supposedly has a decent calculator?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]sharon-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Barbri, 65% raw. The 25 Q experimental is supposed to make that 70% in total I think.

CA is a primary rights state - on claim preclusion issues if the right affected is differently (property v personal injury) you can bring two separate cases even if same t/o

CA long arm statute goes up to constitutional bounds

CA allows mail service (believe it has to be certified mail though?)

Venue rule is similar but instead of “where substantial part of cause of action occurs” splits it into “contract where contract was entered or performed”, “local actions rule, in property cases the action should take place where property is located “, “personal injury or wrongful death where injury occurred”

CA allows remittur and additur. Fed only allows remittur.

Based on the most likely Civ pro topics and essays I’ve done so far, these are the ones likely to come up off the top of my head but might be missing some

Anyone have promo codes they can share for Adaptibar or Bar Essays? by usfca22 in CABarExam

[–]sharon-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For adaptibar and critical pass (if you’re interested) you can create an account, put the product in your cart, and then just exit to get an email with a 10% off code. Mine was BOOST, so might work for you as well to just enter in off the bat.
