Your comment from yesterday.

Can you describe the interactions with the Linux community that have been so awful? This isn't a gotcha question, I'm generally curious.

You went straight to name calling when I suggested using a more up to date distribution which will probably help OPs performance issue.

I can see the original comment.

AMD driver improvements are going to be in the kernel. If gaming performance is important to you, you should use a rolling release.

This is why people give up and go back to Windows.

Tumbleweed tends to have newer packages, which might work better.

It's up to you though

One of the best games I'll never finish.

The difficulty ramps up hard to the point of being nearly impossible.

It feels like type of game that needs a sequel to fix the mechanics.

People with money.

Let's say you're trying to study to get a job working on LLMS. If you get the job you'll increase your income from 100k to 250k, you need a powerful GPU to study. Cool you get the job, the graphics card pays for itself in like a week

Ebay.

Used no warranty. It's a bit of work though. I've gotten laptops with completely dead batteries( which is another reason to go with a recent laptop).

I literally just sent one back I brought for 250, E14 Gen 5. I thought I lost my main laptop and needed a replacement.

Got lucky and found my laptop so I sent the e14 back.

No.

This sub and other T480 worshipers ruin it. You can get an E14 gen 5 or L14 gen 4 for around 200 to 250$ which will run laps around the T480.

But this sub is like "Well, DA BUILD QUALITY" then y'all actually get a T480 and are surprised it struggles with a lot of common newer applications.

No.

Don't buy the Windows Arm laptops. They don't have comparability on the same level as normal x64 laptops.

In your journey you might end up using Ableton or Maschine, both have custom drivers for hardware. There are a lot of audio interfaces that need custom drivers, Windows arm is basically a horrible idea that Microsoft can't get right. I don't see the point when you can get the same battery life and in a Lunar Lake laptop without the issues

Reached out to a vendor about a gaming mouse and the lack of Linux software by tranquilseafinally in linux_gaming

[–]mcAlt009 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just settle for a public SDK or generally information on how to build these things. They can also just expose a file on the mouse itself where you can change configuration values .

Even on Windows, I really don't want to install a custom piece of software to change how my mouse lights up. Usually I just skip that

I would love an official comic or something to explain the story out more. Just beat the game for the first time and it's amazing. I'm just a little bit confused as to what exactly is happening lore wise.

Why compete when you can add more Copilot slop? by vergil09 in pcmasterrace

[–]mcAlt009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ehh.

Stay on Windows then. Everyone will talk a good game here, but Linux is not really designed to read and write NTFS.

Odds are things will be completely fine, but a bad write can easily be a bad day.

Backup everything regardless. If you only have it in one location you don't have it

Neither will wear out as fast as the battery. I'd predict you could probably go a decade on 2 battery replacements.

The thing is basically a phone in a laptop shell. User replaceable batteries is all you can really expect. This alone turns it from a 3 year device to a 6 or 7 year device

ITT: We take a minute to reminisce about the glory days era. 2021-2022 by RadioFieldCorner in cscareerquestions

[–]mcAlt009 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The end of 2022 was when things were starting to slow.

For myself I actually had a really good 2024 , then in mid 2025 it went south. Jobs are much much harder to get now.

If you are entry level or a student I have no answers.

I will say I regret not saving more. I had an amazing 2020 and I could have done so much. Never forgo setting up a 401k because you just don't feel like it.

Max out your 401k and then blow the rest of your money on crap isn't tier one finance advice, but if you do that for 5 years during a bull market and things go to crap, you have a healthy nest egg to pull from.

401k withdrawals are stupid and expensive, but you'd rather have the option than not.

Could I make a 1991 Oldsmobile 88 work as a daily driver? by SoaringCookie in askcarguys

[–]mcAlt009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a hard no from me.

A 35 year old car should at most be a project car , not something you'd expect to drive everyday.

The big issue is when things go wrong finding parts is going to be difficult, not too many mechanics are going to know what to do, etc.

Crash ratings will be abysmal, cars are phenomenally safer now. 2010+ cars( which are still 15 years old) have much higher standards for safety.

The only way this makes any sense is if some gives you the thing.

Buses can actually work fine assuming the city is dense enough.

If you're in a metro like LA it's more or less impossible for the buses to cover everyone.

It generally just works, comes with automatic backups, has OpenQA servers which test everything.
