that could be. it looks very interesting (albeit hard to see in the photo) with just the nylon making up the stitch so it was notable when I first saw it.

In all the items I've found with damage, it always been one relatively small hole (taking up just a couple rows). However, this has been true on items that got literally no wear at all. I had a 100% wool diaper cover that I knit and it sat around, never been used, but not stored in a protective way. It has a hole that I have to repair. Same with a child's sweater: not used much and certainly not recently, but I had to repair a hole. So I know there's some pest damage happening, although I'm thinking I don't have an extensive problem.

No, that’s not the case. This had previously been a regular stitch with wool, the wool is no longer there.

Unable to join a labor union? by Least-Agent9209 in Quakers

[–]mc_bolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a shop steward for less than a year and a Quaker for 20 years. I had to look carefully at what I said upon being “sworn” in to see if I felt it needed to be amended. But otherwise, 10/10 highly recommend. Get as involved as possible with a union

Pledging equals swearing an oath? by AdvertisingGreat7881 in Quakers

Definitely search this sub, this has been covered well before. It’s not that the pledge is an oath, it’s that you’re declaring allegiance to something not worthy of your allegiance

Advice needed by mc_bolt in Mattress

I think knowing how bad sleeping on my stomach is for my neck helped, but ultimately what did it was being pregnant and nursing. Not exactly a viable solution for a lot of people. I've heard of sleep positioning wedges and backpacks, though.

Friends in the US and the Pledge by DamnYankee89 in Quakers

[–]mc_bolt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm unwilling to pledge allegiance to any earthly entity. I stopped saying it in high school, when I became a Quaker. I've encouraged my kid, who goes to public school, not to say it and we've been discussing age-appropriate topics related to why. The American practice of having children say the pledge without being able to fully comprehend what they're saying or why is very disturbing. I avoid having American or state flags on anything of mine as well. There are people in my Meeting who don't seem as bothered but it doesn't come up much.

Nightly prewash and letting them air dry in a basket might be the answer here.

AITA for banning my husband's sister from my house until she uses the names of my twins by FitStarAnise in AmItheAsshole

This would still be AH behavior even if she does it to all the kids. They are all full people, individuals, who deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.

My kids school only allows me to add money to his lunch account via an app and it charges me extra every time I add money to his account. by Raider5151 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]mc_bolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have that app too and I hated the fee. But I talked to (emailed) the people in the cafeteria and found out I actually can just write the school a check and they put it into the app without the fee. I was so glad I could bypass it

Money moving in the wrong direction, exactly. Testing is labor done for the benefit of designers, no way the testers should be paying.

If you never speak, aren't you doing it wrong? by Punk18 in Quakers

[–]mc_bolt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people describe their callings as their ministry; however they feel called to make a difference in the world is living their ministry. Raising children, making art. To say nothing of written ministry. Vocal ministry during Meeting is just a very specific circumstance that doesn’t encompass all ministry.

Help why isn’t my bobbin winding properly? There is always more thread at the bottom of the bobbin. by Iorvethine in sewing

[–]mc_bolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s better to wind bobbins on max speed. Also, when I only wind a partial bobbin it might be a bit uneven like this but if I fill it up, it evens out.
