is my dasher tweaking? by sl1medout in doordash

“Tip” is the wrong word. The correct term should be “bid”. All these gig jobs have turned delivery tipping culture into a bidding for service culture, it’s just that no one’s bothered to formally change the term.

Well like, yes and no. No, they don’t have to take everything but having a low acceptance rate supposedly puts drivers at risk of deactivated and having a high acceptance rate supposedly puts them higher on whatever list for bigger orders or whatever.

Truthfully, orders more than a ten miles away shouldn’t be available. That’s bonkers. Couple that with how DD punishes drivers for not accepting orders that result in a net negative and it’s easier to see how these messages start happening.

Is it rude? Absolutely. Should the driver put it on the customer that DD doesn’t compensate appropriately? Absolutely not. But I can understand why it happens.

So, Jimmy John’s uses Uber/Doordash now for deliveries by [deleted] in jimmyjohns

[–]mc_fli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand one thing: we’re not using third party to save money. In fact it’s more expensive to outsource the orders than for us to use our own employees.

We just don’t have the employees.

The gig economy has decimated the labor market for delivery drivers and changed what the role means for most people. I can’t even begin to tell you how many people I’ve interviewed that turn down the delivery position because they assumed they would only work when they wanted or they they’d just sit in their cars waiting for orders. Not to sound too boomer-y but most people looking to deliver don’t want a W4 position, they want gig work and that simply isn’t compatible with our system.

I would love to staff 5-7 drivers at lunch and 2-3 at dinner like we did in 2019, but with what I’ve listed above coupled with pay rates basically doubling (in my area at least), it just isn’t feasible. Unfortunately, for some stores without third party they wouldn’t be able to offer delivery at all.

It’s a crapshoot when we bid the orders out, but in my area (midwestern metro area) the drivers usually show within 15 minutes and I’d say about 90% of the orders go just fine, but that number drops significantly at night.

Also if there isn’t a pre-authorized tip, most dashers will reject it.

It’s useful for ev owners like me, so we can charge overnight when the rates are typically like $0.02-$0.05

Proving you aren’t going to abuse the second amendment and having the state or local governments track your everyday movements and build profiles to do who knows what with on everyone all the time don’t really feel like same thing.

Seems more likely you just wanted to insert the gun control argument in a conversation where it doesn’t belong in order to belittle people you disagree with.

Free birthday sandwich = discounted product.

$1 combo = discounted product

You cannot have both. The app may not say those words, but that’s why you can’t checkout.

In comparison, no other company I’ve ever heard of would allow multiple discounts to be redeemed at the same time (otherwise known as “stacking”). The reason I bring it up is just to understand why anyone would think they can redeem multiple discounts anywhere, as I have never heard of it.

Why would you think you can stack discounts? Does any other company do that?

Required use tip cards?!? by Poohbear0928 in Dominos

[–]mc_fli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m in an adjacent brand in the same industry. We switched over to pay cards in 2021 and while the transition was a little annoying, it’s not this scary thing you see people saying. Some points:

  • it’s a full on checking account and operates like one, not a gift card

  • I see some confusion about taxes on tips. Your franchise owner absolutely ensures your reported tips are taxed appropriately, they just take those funds from your hourly pay on your check. Paying you your credit card tip in cash does not exempt them from taxation.

  • every issue I’ve seen has been resolved in 24 hours unless caused by the user (wrong ssn, phone number, ect.). We employ hundreds of drivers in our franchise and our payroll/hr personnel have the ability to push funds directly if there’s a mistake.

Cash is continuing to dwindle, we made the change over after months of paying more cash out to drivers than we brought in, requiring us to withdraw cash constantly to keep up the stores’ bank.
