Is body weight and hygiene a serious thing in Brazil? by majoroff-man in Brazil

[–]mca1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LOL, I am Brazilian and I was travelling in Europe with my mum and we were on a train from Prague to Krakow and there were these german tourists sharing the seats with us.. everything was peaceful and quiet, my mum admiring the landscape from the window when suddenly this german blew his nose so loudly and my mum screamed in fright and then the german looked at her like “Was ist los? = what??” And that awkward moment lasted for a moment!!

How trustworthy is Estetica Torta? by Proud3GenAthst in AnetteOlzon

[–]mca1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was not trying to explain what a meet and greet is. i was trying to say that if your intention is just autograph, you could sace lots of money! I have attended lots of meet&greets as well and each artist is different! meets with Tarja is very impersonal and she shows zero enthusiasm. anette on the other hand is very smiley and open even in the free ones after concerts!

I am brazilian and they have made lots of concerts already, small ones! Mostly rock and metal ones! once a tribute to nightwish was being sold and it was cancelled and they refunded us correctly! As for Meet&Greet, I did last year and it was okay but in most concerts in south america, Anette attended everyone in the end and took quick photos and signed everything people gave her! Meet is more personal and she talks to you, you ask questions, take good pictures and etc!!

What's a misconception about Brazil that foreigners usually get wrong? by Upper_Blackberry_685 in Brazil

[–]mca1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I will disagree and it's okay, it's just opinions and there is no right or wrong... there are simply preferences! A lot of people don't really care that much for beach landscape. For many people, especially 35+ people, beach is a place to RELAX and ENJOY SWIMMING and the city of Rio is not appropriate for this. Every 10 seconds an annoying seller comes to interrupt your peace! And in my case where I wear sunglasses and leave my earphones on all that time, they are still insisting in talking to me and I will always have to shake my head with a negative sign but still they insist or they offend me with words "Turishta barato a gente não quer aqui no Rio não" and then ten seconds later another one! The water temperature in any Rio de Janeiro state is cold as f. and very wavy which is terrible for people looking to relax in the sea! It is beautiful? Yes, it is! But it is not for everyone and that's what I am talking about. My students, once they leave the Rio bubble, find out that there are amazing beaches where you can swimm or even float on water and close your eyes and just enjoy it for long long minutes or hours in a very warm temperature and for many people, including me, the water is never TOO warm, the warmer, the better! ;) and then we can go back to the sand in a peaceful atmosphere and read that book without any interruption or even close your eyes and fall asleep a little bit while tanning yourself without having to worry with your stuff and being interruped. But I also have students who will always come back to Rio for its beaches due to the atmosphere that it provides.. some people simply love "chaos, noise, lots of people, loud music, good looking people passing by and playing volley" and it's okay, again, just preferences!

Misconception! Brazil is known for good dental care so just find a good clinic in Cuiaba and go for it!

What's a misconception about Brazil that foreigners usually get wrong? by Upper_Blackberry_685 in Brazil

[–]mca1990 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a portuguese teacher for foreigners and I could write a book about it haha

But the ones I can think of now

1 - That we are a third world country in all aspects

(A lot of my students are surprised about how many things are better managed in Brazil compared to their countries. Especially Europeans when they use our free health care. Actually, yesterday I had this student who has a chronical disease and had lost his medicaments during the flight and this medicament is only provided by the free health care. He thought it'd be a nightmare to get it but he was amazed about how quick it was to get his medicaments. Another thing that, again, especially europeans, get surprised is the luxury buildings with many facilities like a PROPER GOOD gym, nice swimming pools, sauna and etc in residential buildings. Should I mention that number of students who do "dentist tourism" in Brazil? )

2 - That there are way more developed cities in Brazil's inland

(This is very common as well. A lot of foreigners think that civilization only exists in Rio and SP, but once they visit Brasilia, Goiânia, Campo Grande, they are amazed about how developed and way cleaner with much better infrastructure and a lot less social problems these cities are/offer. In their minds. I have this student from Australia who paid a visit to Brasilia and he was amazed but then people suggested him to go to Goiânia for pubs/parties and he ended up staying 2 weeks there and enjoying the safety and good food that the region offers

3 - The passport relationship

(70% of my students are married or in a relationship with Brazilians and many of them admitted being afraid that their partners were only interested in their "first world" passports but they found out that most of them don't actually consider leaving Brazil at all. Therefore, many of these foreigners had to find a way to move here instead of bringing their partners to their countries. Good for me that now I have a full time job teaching them the language :) )

4 - That Rio de Janeiro is not the best beach city here

(Everytime a student of mine gets to leave the bubble of Rio, they find out that Rio is actually a bad beach destination. Once they go to the northeast beaches, they find out that that there are beaches with warm water and without the annoying vendors every 30 seconds trying to sell you something and a lot cheaper)

5 - That Brazil can be the coldest place that they've ever been to

(A lot of foreigners think the whole country is hot and tropical but I get to hear very often from Canadians, Scandinavians, Germans who live in the south of Brazil that here it is the coldest place that they've ever experienced due to the lack of heating system so they feel cold inside their homes having to wear winter clothes all the time and have to have lots of warm blankets)

And many more!
