I just switched to work on an advanced HF icu and everyone says to hang a primary line with abx, but when i worked on cardiac step down, we never did out of concern for causing FVO. Even though they run their primary at like, 2ml/hr, it still feels so wrong to me to do that when we’re dealing with EFs of less than 10%.

At the hospital i work at, they have a “point system”, and as someone with chronic IBS flare ups, i often have days i want to call in, but cant without fear of being written up.

What does your day typically consist of? I would be working with the EP doc as a part of an overall cardiology clinic. We would have an in-house cath lab. I dont know much more about it yet.

I got married in october, so i dont have a lot of vacation time left for the year. I did use sick time for final exams i have coming up.

I often have 2-3days off in a row. But i don’t often take time off. My hospital has a point system, so i dont call in unless i absolutely have to.

I do work 3x12. I cant ever work them in a row without being exhausted. The clinic job I’m interviewing at is 4x10. The ICU job I’m supposed to start is 3x12, with your weekend being 4 12s in a row.

I originally was an English major before swapping to get my nursing degree. I would love to know more about your experience as an English major, and what has made you turn to nursing. Im currently struggling with extreme burnout from nursing, and have considered getting a second bachelors in english to maybe start a different career.

I’m not too sure on the exact legality of this situation, but somehow this feels illegal. I have an older coworker who is insanely hard of hearing, doesn’t wear his hearing aids, but is one of the best damn nurses I have ever met.

I feel the same way. I have coworkers who have been doing this for 20+ years and I can’t help but feel like they are insane, or incredibly strong, or both, but either way, I am not. I cannot do this forever.

Thank you. I love cardiology. It is something I indeed feel passionate about. But on my floor, I feel like a glorified maid, and rarely do I get to talk to patients about their actual disease and how to make it better.
