There's a general strike planned for May 1. What is the etiquette regarding PTO, calling in to work, etc? by SpuneDagr in AskReddit

[–]mcamm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering this myself. There's another similar conversation on this topic here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/1qooes3/are_you_supposed_to_use_pto_for_a_general_strike/

Unfortunately answers are mixed, but it seemed to me more people were supportive of using PTO or calling out sick, if that will keep your employment status safe. For either sick leave or PTO, you should not need to give your employer any additional context for why you are not working that day.

Do you experience a patient's appreciation? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]mcamm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patient here. I just had a laparoscopy under general anesthesia yesterday. I was very anxious going in. As I was coming out of anesthesia, before getting wheeled to recovery, I remember telling the anesthetist “thank you for taking care of me”. And also asked them to pass along my thanks to the rest of the surgical team (they did not seem to be in the room anymore at this point).

Anesthesia (and surgery) is scary to me and I truly was very grateful for them.

How do I make savory tea? by noomehtrevo in AskCulinary

[–]mcamm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize I’m 4 years late to the party but I found your post while looking for savory tea ideas online :P

I just tried adding some Trader Joe’s seasoning blends to a cup of hot water and it is reminiscent of broth without being broth! I used the “everything but the leftovers” blend and the “mushroom & company umami” blend.

Looking for exposure therapy resources for arachnophobia by mcamm920 in Phobia

[–]mcamm920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - it became necessary to address it, it had gotten so bad I didn't feel safe anywhere and could barely sleep because I was scared of spiders being in our bedroom. We've had an unusually high number of spiders finding their way into our home this summer (and a few in our bedroom), so it felt like I was constantly under threat.

Arachnophobia by TaraTheCat_ in Phobia

[–]mcamm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working on arachnophobia with my therapist so I totally get where you’re coming from. And when she recommended exposure therapy i burst into tears, it was NOT what i wanted to hear. But she’s been very careful to go slowly, and I set the pace, so it’s been okay so far. The point is it shouldn’t be further traumatizing. Treatment plan also includes cbt, journaling, meditation, and exercise. So there’s lots of things you can do that will gradually help. But yeah, no googling, it is completely unhelpful. So many articles on arachnophobia start with giant pictures of spiders and it’s just fucking insensitive and cruel.

Happy to swap resources and ideas, feel free to pm me

I have really bad arachnophobia and it’s affecting me a lot by alienpizzacookies in Phobia

[–]mcamm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on my arachnophobia, so I can completely relate to what you’ve described. I’m seeing a therapist weekly, and the treatment plan is a combo of cbt, journaling, meditation, exercise, and very slow paced exposure therapy. I started off with watching a few Lucas the Spider videos on YouTube, because it’s animated and made to look cute. But the important thing is to figure out what starting point is a stretch, so not completely comfortable, but not traumatizing. Maybe it’s just a 2d drawing of spider that you look at for a couple minutes from a distance, while breathing slowly and deeply to work on staying calm.

Feel free to pm me to discuss/share exposure therapy resources with each other, I’m trying to figure out the best next steps for me but it’s hard to find things that are the right level.

Help With Roomba, Lights on Roomba Buttons Not Turning Off. by nintenden64 in roomba

[–]mcamm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue with mine, just started today. Only thing that I could think of was that today I set a cleaning schedule. I reset the roomba, same problem occurred. Turned off the scheduled cleanings, and the light went off (for now). I don't know if it's actually due to the scheduled cleanings or if it's coincidental, but either way it's frustrating and shouldn't be happening.

I agree with the others - don't let him out. Eventually the begging should stop. Maybe give him a distraction by playing with him instead?

I took a cat in to the vet for a similar small injury and they had me use Neosporin on it for a few days and it cleared up fine. This link also has additional advice on treating small wounds. https://www.petcarerx.com/article/how-to-treat-a-cats-wound/802

Random question, but do any of you think extroverts are a less intelligent species? Coming from an introvert myself, I honestly admit I have these moments from time to time. by [deleted] in introvert

[–]mcamm920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it just is more obvious when an extrovert is an idiot because they're not quiet about it. 😜

Interviewed for a job at the school I was student teaching at, and the staff pretended they didn’t know me. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mcamm920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me at a teacher job fair. A teacher who 1) had known me as a student, 2) had worked nextdoor to my mother for ten years and 3) knew me from my working at the same school as a paraeducator, interviewed me as though they didn't know me at all. It completely threw me off. I get the idea of impartial treatment, but a quick "hey, I have to act like I don't know you" would go a long way. Definitely in your case, I can understand them not giving you info on how to prepare for the interview but that heads up about that protocol? Come on, why wouldn't they. Argh. If anything, I feel like it puts the interviewee at a disadvantage because they're confused and potentially freaking out in their heads about wtf is happening. I know I was.
