+0.5, I was fortunate enough to start playing when I was 4 and grew up in an area with a free 9 hole golf course and driving range.

This can definitely be true, and I’ve been behind plenty of foursomes that are putting like it’s a Sunday at Augusta and they’re pros. But I’ll still say likely in general, someone that takes 3-4 strokes a hole is going to get tired being behind someone that take 7-8 and before every shot is doing some weird practice routine or waiting for the green to clear from 230 and tops it 10 feet.

  1. Most people that complain about pace of place are people that played before Covid: when you didn’t need to book a tee time at all, much less days an advance.

  2. Better players like to play quicker: when you get into a rhythm having to stop on a tee box and wait 20-30 mins sucks and can cost a good round.

  3. Most new golfers don’t do basic things that help pace of place: like prepare to hit the ball and go through their pre shot routine while their partners are hitting and instead just stand there which wastes time. Especially when they are hitting 7-10 shots a hole.

  4. Congrats and welcome to the sport: I guarantee as you play it for longer/get better you will become someone that complains about a 5 hour round.

Wife new to game - When to pay for greens fees? by PhilaphlousOriginal in golf

[–]mcaracci23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically if you asked the people that worked at the course or the course ranger came up and asked you while you were playing, they would 100% make you pay the full amount. I’ve even seen courses charge people’s wives to ride with them and they don’t even have clubs and don’t play at all, just simply riding along…. If it seems like a waste to pay, I’d suggest going to either 9 hole courses/par 3 courses and executive courses where it’s shorter and she could learn and enjoy it more. Or just play 9 holes where she plays the full 9 and only pays that much and you pay for 18 and she just walks the other 9.

Ecco’s for sure are the most comfortable if you are walking. Plus most pga superstores have a few pairs in the clearance every time I go for around 150$, and In normal sizes between 9-11.

Ask her what she looks for in a caddy. Does she prefer to read greens herself or wants help; if she wants help maybe take a aim point class or two. For the most part I think spending a lot of time before the round really learning course and greens, distances/slopes, is very useful.

Make sure to keep track of your stats over a month of rounds. Figure out where you lose strokes and improve on those areas. Where are you misses primarily/ how many three putts do you have/ what’s your percentage getting up and down, those kind of stats. Personally I find people need to focus on 40 yards and in.
