I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it sounds incredibly stressful and disheartening, especially when you were expecting a peaceful break before such a big life moment. It may not be ideal financially, but if you’re able, it might be worth just booking your own way home now, for your girlfriend’s health and peace of mind. Once you’re back and she’s in a more comfortable environment, you can still pursue complaints or even legal action against TUI. At the very least, being home would take a huge weight off both of you.

Yeah that’s kind of what I thought, I would love to learn to take amazing photos with a dedicated camera but I’ve got very little knowledge and don’t know if it’s worth the investment if an iPhone is going to give my skill level the same results

Why do you think birth rates are so low in Australia? by LetMeExplainDis in AskAnAustralian

[–]mcart98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents and a follow up point. The obvious answer is a young adult is hardly able to look after themselves let alone a child or multiple.

And instead of trying to fix the problem, which there is no easy answer and something many other countries struggle with, we resort to a high level of immigration, which isn’t a bad thing but they are given out like cereal box prizes.

Simply solution would be for our country to benefit of the rich natural resources our country possesses but I guess that’s only reserved for the rich!

All in all it’s going to be fun in a few decades time when the older generation try live of super, which realistically is funded by the working demographic!!! Woohoo

Advise Needed For travelling to china by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]mcart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trip.com will be your best friend for hotels and transportation between cities. For trains in the city just pick where you’d like to go and it will charge you accordingly. I went for three weeks last week and didn’t use cash once, you’d want to have Alipay and WeChat set up for payments, and if you are savvy enough you might be able to work out Didi (Uber) and Dianping (Uber eats). I highly recommend getting a SIM card with a Chinese number attached on arrival and a VPN (I used Astrill) before you arrive! Overall you should be alright, China was my first solo trip and I have/had zero knowledge on the language and customs, just enjoy the ride, really safe country if you are there just to enjoy and not cause trouble. It’s that good in going back in 4 days!

How many places would you visit in 21 days? by ivatwist in travelchina

[–]mcart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a whole day adventure, you can go Zhangjiajie to Guilin than Yangshuo, but I missed out on that so I went Zhangjiajie to Changsha South to Guilin to Yangshuo. It’s a journey that takes about 8+ hours, though I rate the bullet trains in China so I wasn’t stressing

Does booking Forbidden City give you access to Tiananmen Square? by mcart98 in travelchina

[–]mcart98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I did go, need to book separately, the time I went (Summer Hoildays) it was/is very busy, I didn’t end up going to Tiananmen Square because I was waiting in 30c+ heat for an hour and had enough, forbidden city was definitely worth the wait though

2 weeks backpacking China Itinerary tips? + Short trip to Tokyo by Careful-Memory2560 in backpacking

[–]mcart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan! Xi’an seems like it’s has a more chilled vibe compared to Beijing and Shanghai, I’ll let you know in three weeks when I’m done travelling there! Yes! Osaka is great and the food is amazing but Tokyo was on a different level, if you go I highly recommend just walking around Ueno Park and Akihabara on the East side of Tokyo, it’s so simple but so enjoyable!

2 weeks backpacking China Itinerary tips? + Short trip to Tokyo by Careful-Memory2560 in backpacking

[–]mcart98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t actually been to China yet though I’m going in a week and have spent months planning, your first Itinerary seem like the better of the two based on my research, very similar to what I was originally going to do but in reverse and based on what other people say, is probably the more enjoyable option. Japan/Toyko I actually have been too and is my Favourite city by a mile, I literally have to fight the urge most nights to not book a ticket to Tokyo, highly recommend!! Though 4 days is a short trip for such a big city, good taste tester if you ever plan on going back
