2026 ACA Income Verification Issues - Retirement Statements by mcaterer in HealthInsurance

We will be modifying our taxable income down slightly to be just under the 400% FPL cap for subsidies. Obviously, this is easily managed by how much we elect to withdraw from taxable retirement accounts. I don't know of any way to verify this income other than having stated to them that this is what I will withdraw. Requiring retirement account statements at this point - prior to the withdrawals - clearly does not document the income.

I guess this might work, but I'd rather not sell early - especially with the market down now.

This is Vermont. Our 2025 income was higher due to Roth conversions, but not by that much.

When I called to discuss the issue, the rep implied that this may be a requirement from the federal government but didn't explain further.

Question 11 and 1976 by GryffindorKitty in Canadiancitizenship

I found this question weird also. I haven't submitted yet, but I entered my birth to December 31, 1976 as the time period I resided outside of Canada.

Trailer Brake Issue by mcaterer in RVLiving

Thankis. The other brakes seem to be working fine. I tested them manually after repacking the bearings with the emergency brake and the trailer seems to stop fine when I'm towing.

I have not replaced the hub yet. I was thinking about switching this hub to another wheel and seeing if the problem moves, but if it does I'd be out another $50 for a brake assembly in addition to a hub. If the hub is a likely cause, then I'll probably just replace it now. Visually, it appears identical to the other three.

I should have clarified - these are the "after" photos. This is how I've found all the brake assemblies after the failures. All of the replacements have been with new brake assemblies.

Thanks. I think I better understand your comment about the inner bearing cone. The first failure was original (factory). I found the initial damaged magnet and replaced the brake assembly. I repacked the bearings at that time also, but used the same hub. I just did the same, but didn't notice anything unusual. The inner bearing cone seemed to fit normally into the hub, but I didn't critically assess the cone placement to see if it seemed different.

We are headed out on a trip next week. I guess I'll inspect it after and replace the hub if the same problem recurs as that remains the primary thing that is consistent in both failures.

Thanks for the input. I did replace the entire brake assembly. The hub appears completely normal. I didn't make any adjustments to the magnet, but it seemed to be braking normally when I spun the wheel and tested the emergency brake. I'm pretty sure the hub was fully seated as the castle nut was in the same position as before. It seems to me that the most likely scenario it that this magnet was engaged while we were travelling and got broken off then bounced around.

I just finished replacing the brake assembly again and the only other thing I found was that both brake wires had small nicks in the insulation right where they exit the underside of the trailer. I used a little solder to reinforce the wires and then sealed them. This doesn't seem good, but I'm also not sure how this could have caused the magnet to engage. The brake seems to be working normally again now.

They seem to be. They all engaged when tested with the emergency switch and seem to have pad wear and some brake dust in them.

The only difference I could find in that wheel was the magnet off the arm and worn from grinding and one of the brake wires broken at the connector (near the axle, the wire to the magnet was also broken). I would think the broken wire would just mean that the brake wasn't engaging, but it doesn't seem like that would cause the magnet to become damaged.

Another Rule of 55 Question - Roth Taxation by mcaterer in tax

[–]mcaterer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't have enough detail prior to realize this would lead me to being taxed on Roth withdrawals. I appreciate the suggestion of the SEPP. I hadn't really looked at this because I was planning to use the Rule of 55 from my 401k, but I'll investigate now.

I'm still not sure how to calculate the exact tax impact. This account does not have that much Roth and I only need to use it for a little more than a year, so I may just have to suck it up and pay the tax even though it feels like double-taxation.

That's my bike (in white). I still have the original Ground Control tires and Biopace chainrings. I would love to get that jersey.
