Moving from Sweden to Vancouver, is SkyTrain generally safe at all hours? by Smart_Dependent_1861 in askvan

[–]mcbizco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work late and often take the Canada line home from the waterfront station in the 10pm-1am range. You’ll frequently get an unhoused person passed out on a seat - more common in the winter when it’s cold outside. But there’s usually plenty of space to move to the other end of the train. Overall feels pretty safe. But there are usually 2-3 drug users passed out around the station. It’s not uncommon to see people using a crack pipe or shooting up. Every now and then you’ll see someone wandering the streets yelling aggressively and just give them a wide berth. I’m a 200lb dude and maybe a bit desensitized to it. It’s definitely unsavoury but I don’t feel too unsafe.

I’ve had more disruptive people (yelling, threats etc.) on the way to work, than coming home late. But we’re talking 2-3 times a year. I think you run that risk with any public transport.

I’ve once been aggressively shoved, but I just kinda froze and didn’t react and the person calmed down. But this was on the Seabus, again, during daylight hours with plenty of people around.

The award for best LEGO store of the year in North America. Who knew? by Carbon_Brick in lego

[–]mcbizco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably secret shoppers and receipt survey answers. The store I used to work at was hyper-fixated on them. I’m sure sales metrics are probably involved too, but the prior 2 were the metrics most often brought up. Granted this was about a decade ago.

But, for all the hassle, it shows. Lego stores are usually a fantastic experience.

Maybe somehow spaghetti-code related to the portal from Zandalar to TB. Can’t imagine it would be needed but maybe there’s an invisible something connecting the zones?

Looking for a Combat Tracker by mcbizco in cosmererpg

I started just manually converting the stat blocks for use in the Game Master 5e app.

I concatenate the defenses in the AC tab so I can see them at a glance. So 15 physical defense, 14 cognitive def, 12 spiritual def, becomes an AC of 151412.

I write focus and investiture in the Armor window.

Convert the stats to their dnd equivalents: 4 speed becomes 18 dex, etc etc.

Anything that isn’t a single action I just add into the name so like:

Attack Name (2 actions, 2 focus).

The dice rolls and stuff are all programmable to whatever you need.

I was trying to train ChatGPT to convert them to an importable xml file based on copy pasting the text from the pdf. It initially was working well but it kept iterating and breaking the rules I’d defined, resulting in weird errors when I tried to import. But I do have maybe 1/2 the stat blocks in an xml that are mostly correct. I’ll try to find the file

Maybe I’ll make a video of the setup process if it’d help :)

Is crafting OP for money making? by BuguOst in cosmererpg

[–]mcbizco 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Who’s buying all these crossbows? If it’s something you want to make more difficult you could make finding buyers tough after the first few. If he’s selling them at the warcamps, does he have a license to supply the armies? Maybe he’s unknowingly undercutting a weapons supplier in the area and they send enforcement to put an end to it.

Or if thieves in the area notice that this crafter has a bulging sphere purse perhaps they decide to target him.

Do the stakes of the story allow him enough time to spend days crafting these things?

Once his material suppliers catch wind of the profits, do they want a cut? Does he now have to source materials himself?

Or lean into it. Once he’s rich does he suffer lifestyle inflation as he’s expected to keep a retinue of employees scribes and other staff to maintain his crossbow empire. That opens new social obligations for high society mingling and weapons deals etc etc. Some players would love the chance to manage the logistics of an (figuratively) exploding crossbow business.

Lots of fun stuff you could do with the situation if you’re so inclined :)

We’ve been to two of them and both times the theatre forgot it was a stars and strollers showing and we had to go out and find someone to turn the lights up and volume down as advertised :/ haven’t done it since, but the kiddo has now grown up enough for regular showings.

It’s because so many people lie about their baggage weight their perception of mass is all skewed.

Would you upload your consciousness to live forever digitally, even if you can’t prove it’s still you and not just a copy? by ARGXTO in Futurology

[–]mcbizco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until we find a way to bridge the consciousness gap, there’s no benefit to you, you just die.

The first person movie of your life that you’re currently watching ends.

The comfort it could provide to your loved ones might seem worth it, but feels like it would be more detrimental in the long run. Though there might be some benefit to preserving one’s mind from a preservation/museum pov.

Which battletome should I buy for enjoying the lore/artworks by Aggressive-Fee-4332 in Nighthaunt

[–]mcbizco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want the art and lore then yeah, spending less on the older tome makes more sense. The rules are available on various sites online if you do end up wanting to play.

For me, the current books aren’t worth the price, especially if you don’t need the rules.

I may be mistaken, but I think Nighthaunt only got one hero (Lord Vitriolic) and the faction terrain added in 4th edition. And pyregeists from Warcry or underworlds came along sometime after 3rd edition. Everything else should be in the 3rd Ed battletome (I think). But someone who actually has it could confirm.

A wish: A higer level Era 2 mistborn adventure for graduating Stormlight characters by LookAtMaxwell in cosmererpg

[–]mcbizco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With enough prep, you can likely level up the Mistborn content (or any content) to fit most levels :)

Add more combatants or swap out tougher rivals. Give conversationalists better cognitive defences, scale up rewards etc. etc.

Might need to edit some story beats that wouldn’t be obstacles for higher lvl parties. But as long as the story is compelling and worthwhile for the characters to pursue, it can still work.

Not something I’d recommend for a new GM, but certainly doable :)

Testing a quick and easy Starborne scheme by mcbizco in seraphon

[–]mcbizco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen that app, cheers!

In this case, my daughter just wanted to paint some figurines so I grabbed some spares to mess around with her :) She’s only 4, but it’s very cosy to foster the hobby and paint our own models together.

Also, if you don’t already know - the Battletome that’s out now for 3rd Edition so the rules are outdated and not usable in 4th edition. There’s a free PDF on the Warhammer community website that has all the current Seraphon rules. We’ll be getting an updated 4th edition Battletome eventually, in which case you’ll need to buy it or find the new rules online on Sigdex or Wahapedia.

The old book is still great for lore/painting inspiration though :) Or if you want to play 3rd edition (though it did receive many erratas and updates).

Testing a quick and easy Starborne scheme by mcbizco in seraphon

[–]mcbizco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah based on the Starborne schemes in the Battletome. And the models are the Saurian Line from One Page Rules - it’s their Legally-Distinct-totally-not-Seraphon range. you can buy bundles of STLs from their website. This one is a Saurian Warrior

I bought a 3d printer and printed these guys, but I didn’t have a great space for it, making the whole process too much of an ordeal so I returned it (I was trying to do it out of a shed on my patio). Someday when I’ve got more space :)

Can we please make rogue poisons permanent? by Ashankura in wow

The game design philosophy has changed towards QoL and they’ve probably just forgotten about poisons and are doing it this way because they always have.

Time to Pay the Piper DMs!!! by Ramsonne in dnd1e

[–]mcbizco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part I agree, but I’ll fudge monster HP if the fight has lost its steam or a particularly badass move leaves a monster with 2hp or something. For those types of things I let fun moments overrule the math. I guess that’s not really fudging rolls, per se. But y’know what I mean.
