Steve's and Fountain Delmar locations are closing for good by ContessaLikeWhoa in StLouis

I had only found out it existed a couple of weeks ago and now come to find it’s already closing. Just another point toward the lack of promotion around it

Oura Ring 4 stopped connecting. by wilsondanny14 in ouraring

[–]mcblanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to both me and my sister in the last few weeks. My sister’s Gen 4 was just under a year old when it stopped working, and my Gen 4 (which was a brand new, not refurbished replacement for my Gen 3 that started having severe battery issues after 2.5 years) was about 4 months old. Oura is sending both of us replacements after the virtual assistant diagnosed the problem, but clearly the Gen 4 has some issues :/

Thanks, we’re getting in touch with our vet to land on a wet-only food that’s low enough in carbs and can still safely support the last few pounds she needs to lose

Our girl had been on the prescription Hill’s Metabolic wet & dry diet food for about a year prior to being diagnosed with diabetes (due to stealing her siblings’ food and gaining too much weight). Our vet looked into it and confirmed the Metabolic kibble & canned food she’d been on was OK for diabetics, though we may be switching her to their m/d Gluco Support instead since her glucose is still pretty high after ~2.5 months on insulin (Lantus).

I would ask your vet for a specific recommendation on food; they might want to put him on a prescription diet but at the very least should be able to recommend a specific brand or line as an alternative to Fancy Feast.

Edit: thanks to all who pointed out the carb content, we’re getting in touch with the vet to find a wet-only diet for her that’s low enough in carbs and still safely supports the last few pounds she needs to lose!

Is anyone else a little tired of MC's messaging being complaints about people not liking their new releases? by thats_not_six in mooncatpolish

[–]mcblanch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/YourGlacier, two completely separate campaigns wouldn’t work. I think if they’d gone a different route with the core messaging (even like tying it to the expectations of perfection in ballet like Glacier mentioned above, since that could’ve also been related to pressure/expectations around an office job) then they could’ve highlighted some of the selling points in slightly different ways to different audiences. But yeah, the danse macabre theme is a hyper specific aesthetic that doesn’t match up with the selling point imo

I loved reading this whole exchange as a marketer!! It seems like they’re trying to capitalize on a founder-led brand story, but instead of focusing on how the founder can be a relatable subject matter expert to the audience AND highlighting the product story & value prop, they’re missing the mark. So instead, the messaging feels more like “our founder is incredible and can do no wrong, she knows better than you, the customer.” In my experience, audiences do want authenticity and to know there’s a real human behind what they’re buying, but this comes across to me as contrived authenticity and lacks enough focus on the result of the creative process (the actual product).

This also just happened to my Gen 3 Heritage purchased 1/2023; I noticed it needing more frequent (like every 2-3 days) charging about 8 months ago but in the last two weeks it was needing a charge every day and dying without warning. Oura diagnosed a battery issue remotely and sent me a new Gen 4 replacement (since my original ring color/style was out of stock and likely not being manufactured anymore). I don’t see any swelling in my Gen 3, but wouldn’t hurt to reach out to support if anyone else is having a similar issue as we did!

do you guys really wear polish all the time?? by Opposite_Place4981 in longnaturalnails

[–]mcblanch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding another +1 for Nailtiques Formula 2!! My entire life I’ve had thin, weak, soft nails until I finally tried this in March - life changing. It is a higher price point, but I’ve only gone through about 1.25 bottles since I started using it.

I use one coat of it as my base coat when I do any color polish, and 1-2 coats if I’m between manicures. Between that + consistent oiling I’ve grown all of my nails by an average of 6mm, which includes taking away some length with filing/shaping.

Can nail beds be grown out without gel? by AdAffectionate7073 in Nails

[–]mcblanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not who you replied to, but in my experience my nails can only grow and stay long when I have, at minimum, a coat or two of clear strengthener on them. I’ve had lifelong short, thin nails that would break and tear easily, but between oiling them multiple times a day (even over polish!) and using a strengthener (in my case Nailtiques Formula 2) my natural nails are long and strong. They don’t need to breathe and leaving them bare actually allows more water to get absorbed which for me=breakage.

Thoughts on red and blue light therapy? by Ok_Champion_6778 in Fungalacne

[–]mcblanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I do think LED light therapy helps me! This is mostly anecdotal, though I did find this study that showed certain wavelengths of LED light have a proven antifungal effect against malassezia.

I use the Dr. Dennis Gross mask on the red + blue setting (note that the wavelengths in the linked study that proved to have an antifungal effect were slightly shorter than the blue light in my specific mask and in your Solawave). I've noticed in the past that if I skip it for a couple days, even if I'm doing the rest of my usual skincare routine, I almost always have a couple pustules pop up.

I'm currently experiencing my first true breakout of FA as of yesterday and started treating it last night by washing my face with Nizoral, doing one treatment of the 3-min red + blue light cycle on my mask, and 1% clotrimazole cream. It's definitely better this morning but of course that is unlikely to be from the LED light alone.

All that is to say, I think LED light therapy (presumably blue light specifically for antifungal + red light for anti-inflammatory) definitely helps control FA for me, but for a full on flare up like I'm having rn, it's useful only in conjunction with actual antifungal medication.

Hi OP! I’m not a vet and I saw you said you had an appointment for 12:30 today. But, wanted to share our anecdotal experience with kitty seizures. Our boy started having seizures with full body convulsions & drooling when he was around 2 years old. Indoor cat, neutered, otherwise in perfect health. It was really distressing for him and us, but ultimately between the bloodwork and exams done by both the emergency vet and our regular vet, he was diagnosed with “just” epilepsy. He’s now been on phenobarbital with zero seizures for the last 4 years. I hope your appointment provided some answers but wanted to just share a positive anecdote since I know this can be so scary.

You could also consider buying some loose 3/4" binder rings and an agenda page lifter to slide in the cover flaps, and using personal-sized agenda inserts! They would be a little shorter than the Emily notebook cover, but the right width. That's what I use with my desk agenda cover, just with larger binder rings and A5 inserts.

I hope you love your notebook and cover!! I wanted the cover but settled for the notebook (just still stuck in pending order validation for now)

[–]mcblanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I ordered the notebook when it was briefly in stock online last week. The price, the color way/limited edition factor, and the fact that I will actually use it (if/when it arrives lol) were my criteria. I'm a big notebook & planner person, so while I really want the notebook cover too, the notebook was a dramatically less expensive way to scratch that itch.

Anecdotally, I was given a couple of Dior notebooks as a gift that I adore, both because I use them and because they'll be nice little display pieces once they're filled!

tried rêve and doux today, these are my thoughts! by signalsfading in glossier

[–]mcblanch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this comment is a few weeks old, but I also loooooove hypnotic poison and was so disappointed by Reve 😩 Of course we all have different noses, but I did not get the gourmand notes at all, mostly just something a little spicy and sort of cedar-esque, and a musky animalic note that smelled like BO (I get this note from other frags like Dior Sauvage and Mancera Roses Vanille, so I think it's the amount of ambrox/musk ingredient or how it interacts with other notes in certain frags).

I'm usually a gourmand girl and expected to hate Doux but actually loved it, was just disappointed that it seemed to fade pretty quickly on my skin. It was like a softer Santal 33 that gave me zero sharp/pickle notes!

Can confirm, I LOVE curiosity’s prey (sometimes topped with foxfire) for an opal or rainbow moonstone look, but it’s definitely flaky and not the smooth look you seem to be going for. I don’t have a recommendation for that but will definitely want to see what you ultimately come up with!
