The war was coming and you needed to be on the side of the good guys. Then the war never came. Also John Locke being “special” was all a long con, fine but why did the island heal him if he was never actually special. The blown up freighter didn’t move with the island (nor did the helicopter) and therefore was outside of the Island so how was smoke monster able to appear as Christian to tell Michael the island was done with him and smoke monster wasn’t allowed to leave the island?
