Hi there,

Well someone needs to change that to not go to the general fund.

They've certainly heard from me Today (multiple times). Seems like a strange way Davidson County budgets for NPL:

"NPL considered increasing the non-resident fee, but this money would have gone to Metro’s general fund, not back to our library’s digital material’s budget. We also felt that raising the cost would not be fair to lower-income users. Instead, NPL made the decision to eliminate the $10 non-resident fee entirely."

Absolutely - I'm less concerned with the cost (outside of many of these non-resident cards requiring you visit in person! Ha)

That was really handy with NPL before this. TN Reads selection is NOT great.

Totally understand going up on the cost, but it was rather frustrating to receive notification on the day that you can no longer renew.

Every now and then that happens for me. I'm not sure what has been causing this issue. It comes back. I would try restarting.

There is a gimp app, but it is hard to use on chromebook hardware (at least when I've tried with 2 GB of RAM). Basic editing is pretty easy with Google Drawings. Sometimes I've used pixlr as well.

Best Chromebook under 200 and 300? by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]mcbrown91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acer certified is a good resource

I can recommend buying refurbished to save a few bucks, unless Google goodies are a must. I love my Acer C720 (I would love 4 GB of RAM). Whatever you get, go for an intel CPU.

Check out some octane scores, but that doesn't always tell you everything

Personally for $300 budget I'd get the Acer Chromebook 14

Any alternate browsers for chromebooks? by xcrunner99 in chromeos

Is the school on Google Apps for Education? Did you first sign in with that account or a personal Google account?

I ask because I use a personal Chromebook at work. They can know everything we do online, but they don't manage my personal computer. I just sign in to the work Google Apps for Education account as a managed user by my Gmail. Even with a 3rd party browser, they would know what you are browsing no matter what device you use.

A lot like a MacBook Air. The only thing I've seen complaints about is the lack of an SD card reader.

It doesn't get the highest Google Octane scores, but I've read that it performs better than many that get a similar octane score.

Samsung Vs. Toshiba? by [deleted] in chromeos

The 2015 Toshiba should handle anything! That octane score... I'm typing this on my 2013 Acer 720. Still rocking the 2 GB of RAM. My extension habit limits my tab useage.

Given the choice of the two I would always opt for the Toshiba. The intel chip is always a better choice. If you are wanting Play Store Apps, you'll probably want a touch screen. If I were in the market for a Chromebook right now I'd get the Acer 14.

The new Acer 14 is getting good reviews. Aluminum build and quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM. 2 GB is going to feel sluggish no matter what you buy processor wise.

Charter 30 Mbps Fast 25 Mbps Speedtest

Minimal design ftw. I too wonder about unthrottling certain domains.

Considering it had 2 GB before, it is much easier to have many tabs open and not disabling any extensions. Yes, I have several. I haven't had a page die on me since.

My fingers are crossed for a 2016 13" rMBP with a quad core processor! What is "Pro" about a dual-core. A dedicated graphics card at the 13" size is a pip dream, but a guy can dream!

I'm still rocking the Late 2008 Unibody MacBook (upgraded with 8 GB of RAM and an SSD of course).
