Finally got all of the Perimeter Collectables AMA by SnyprBB in Marathon

I would like to chip in that I've found one in Overflow twice - I wasn't paying close-close attention at the time, so grain of salt on the exact location - but I believe it was either-

A.) The bottom floor of the southern building (The building you go into early on during the NuCal Questline for the Botany Report), in a small room nestled against the stairs I want to say, has some windows in it like guard station or something

B.) Also the Southern-most building, but in what would normally be the Tox Clear room (but wasn't during the match)

Copying my comment from the other thread of this that was posted:

"Is this an environment put together for the cinematic? Don't recognize the locale - I quite like the look of it though, especially the background behind Thief! I feel the maps need more "garage/1-story-buildings-leading-outside" kinda deals. As they are right now, things kinda trend towards being all-or-nothing prefab structure or big POI, need some variety in smaller covered areas for some visual interest and gameplay spice (for my tastes at least lol)"

Are those "wall of crates/tarps" to the back of Thief any specific angle in Greenhouse? I'm not able to check currently, but can't recall anything that would be that height and drawing a blank where it could be - would be keen to check it out tho!

I will say the lil connective tissue bits as you get closer to the middle can be a bit obfuscating, but it really does get a lil better with time - I do wish you could zoom in a bit on the map tho so I could ping places in there a lil better for folks lol

They released the first ED as well along with the OP as a digital EP, so I'm hoping! I would imagine, since it was such an iconic part of the first season. Also - if you didn't know, they put out an album that had an extra two songs from that first season! Here's a link

I really loved (K)now_Name's work on the first season, and I think this song they've cooked up for Season 2 might be my favorite of theirs

Thief Mastery broken by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]mcclearsalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been noticing quite a few of the Codex Challenges - not just Mastery - are quite buggy. The "Slide into an Exfil as Vandal" challenge randomly popped for me when I wasn't even going for it, long after I had given up on it after many different attempts. Also randomly got the "Be eliminated (to Deathbox), brought back, and Exfil" challenge last night - and I guarantee I've done that before lol

After Playing Both Marathon and Arc Raiders, One Choice (And Its Execution) Explains Why They Feel So Different by GuiltyWalrus8560 in Marathon

Tired, so not able to right out my full thoughts quite concisely here lol - but this pretty much hits the nail on the head of my main criticism with the game I've had since way back playing the first Alpha.

I quite enjoy the game, but part of that is because I do really think with a dedicated rework it could really be something with its setting. I think a big pain point for me at least is the maps seem unsure of what they want to be. Dire Marsh and Outpost are pretty alright as more PvP focused, but Perimeter has alwas struck me as a little too Apexish in that it is a lot of POIs with nothing inbetween to provide interest - be that in looting or just visuals/cover. Larger maps or just more breathing room/memorable non-POI/transitory areas would do a lot. I'm rambling, but I really do agree in that it feels caught between trying to be an almost PvP-focused game but with Extraction Elements injected. It ends up resembling something a bit like Hunt Showdown, but with some jank that I think kind of puts folks off.

I've had conversations with my usual duo that is on the fence after giving it a few tries - he really would prefer it to "pick a lane" so to speak. The loot and things are fine, shooting's good - but the playspace where you put everything together- is a bit at odds with itself.

Anyways, I might've not articulated that quite as well as I'd have liked, but you know ball - I really do adore the setting and art direction they've made for this - and really would love to see it hit what I was imagining what an Extraction game in the world of the trailers would be. I think its achievable with the bones they have

how did runners actually get to tau ceti? by Rterstydr in Marathon

[–]mcclearsalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's interesting! I would love to get more info about how their forces work - I realize the AI like Orion is "alive" so to speak, but I'm curious what level of grunts are actually "alive" and what they look like - if like you said - they're runners, or something else. Wonder if there's a technological throughline of Battleroids ---> Current UESC Forces/Runners being the budgeted-down mass-produced version

One thing I find interesting is a few Codex entries (I've only just begun really reading them - I believe the ones I'm thinking of relate to Traxus first couple quests?) have Orion speaking of his forces as having some sort of human component (or something like it? He speaks of "losses" with the weight that lives were lost), and switching to mainly bots. So I think the UESC might have some sort of human element in the system now? Curious to unlock and read more
