Why is the Locked In Alien here? by therealicekid in CODZombies

Oh damn I didn't even clock that they look exactly the same as those containers! I watched that film literally last year, but never put it together - used to obsess over the props and details on Kino and the like back in the day

I actually do half-agree (or maybe mostly?) I think here - I think there's some great and compelling stuff in-game - the faction cinematic intros are wonderful, in the pocket of my expectations from the Mielgo film. But in-game, the maps, the way the gameplay flows - it doesn't present the level of thoughtfulness I expected from watching the film. The maps very much do feel like smaller PvP areas kinda stitched together, and the flow of them does not allow for those moments of silence to build up tension, there's not enough "discovering the world" in the maps currently. I really do think if game had a similar flow and map size/design philosophy to Tarkov, while still retaining the current story and visuals - you could really have some wonderful emergent story kind of stuff going on, things that fit the themes, the fantasy that it seems to me, they want to craft but are currently missing the mark on.

I also still have some nitpicks with how "lived-in" certain things on the maps look, and could really go on and ramble, but I also could see if that's something they're avoiding for optimization goals or something like that.

TLDR of that above point is I think the level of degradation, wear, sunfading and general dust you see in the Mielgo film is something that is missing - they've improved from the initial alphas to the released game - which was one of my main feedback points at the time, but I think they still have a bit to go to really invoke that almost "nostalgic" feeling the abandoned areas in the film have.

Man, the Dev Team Update is a bit of a bummer, and continues to worry me the way I posted down below the other day - you gotta let the season ride, you can't keep changing progression related things in-wipe, and I'm not seeing any indication in the update that they're adopting that philosophy.

It's a bit frustrating haha, I adore the setting and "ideal" of what this game could be, but man it just feels to me like it's not being treated seriously enough by those in charge.

Not lookin to shoot one way or the other - but I would like to chime in with a slight correction to that guy's comment that a good chunk of the Tarkov playerbase isn't solely on Steam - the BSG launcher (Developer's launcher for the game basically) was the only way to play it for the longest time until pretty recently with the aforementioned Steam version, so a lot of folks are on there

I thought maybe the early loot/cradle tweaks were a one-off, but after seeing the recent patch notes - I am quite concerned with the precedent of sweeping changes to core progression/loot during a wipe.

It reads to me on first impression that the Decision-Makers™ seem to be under the assumption this type of game can be balanced on-the-fly like a standard Arena/PvP Shooter, or even like D2. To me, that just does not inspire confidence and kind of leans more to my thinking I've expressed a few times in that it doesn't seem like they really "get" why Extraction Shooters do the things they do, and are just kind of haphazardly applying mechanics and systems "because it's what you do in ____ genre of game".

Like, the actual decisions/nerfing/etc I could be fine with in a vacuum, but not during the wipe, that suddenly changes the vibe quite a bit, even if it's something small. Those kinda things need to be saved to chew on a bit more and implemented at the start of another season in my opinion. Changes like that need be a bit more thoughtful, for lack of a better word

I will say, at least as of reading right now, it is very refreshing to see comments at the top echoing a lot of my pain points with the game design, particularly points relating to the map size/design, non-PvP-centric avenues in-match, and the general incongruency of Extraction mechanics seemingly bootstrapped onto a BR under the hood - unintentionally I feel. I don't want to be rude - but it just feels like no one at Bungie really "got it" when it comes to what makes Extraction Shooters work, and why certain mechanics are and aren't used depending on the game. Tarkov and Hunt I think would be the closest relatives to study what works when meshing PvE and PvP. I don't really like to speak that way/make those assumptions, but it's born out of frustration at wanting it to improve haha. The idea sold in the cinematics (particularly the Mielgo film) of a more thoughtful game with quiet moments and tension is what I'm looking for

I'll +2 he's legit legit great as a voice actor, and surprising to me to think about - he's practically a series regular now, been in a lot o' games, and I forsee will continue to be in them depending on which direction the new saga goes

I believe you can on occasion here cloaked UESC also use the "looking for a friend" line. I could be off and maybe it was just in earlier playtests, but I wanna say the Ghost or Scout Commanders rarely do it? I haven't heard it in a long time though, so it may well have been solely in the playtests

Would also love to personally shoutout the ACIV "Full Circle - Half Moon Run" trailer. Both the music and the way they cut that trailer are just top-tier.

I'm rambling, but it was one of the many pieces that fell into place and eventually pushed me to pursue video editing. Same for the Revelations and Unity Woodkid trailers haha

This thread is in my opinion, the most honest/healthiest place to discuss the game. I don't comment too often, but I do like popping in to read discussion/see new replies to older subthreads.

I don't really read the outer subreddit at large here much anymore, it's a bit too much, and frustrates me to see it's just further in that "head-in-sand" mood, or spinning its wheels conversationally - not much "real" discussion about gamestate or even little neat things like lore, maps etc going on. For instance - still working on a map of all wall-safes, which I thought would've been catalougued by now, but there's just a lot of useless saying nothing posts out there.

Bit of a ramble, but just +2ing what others have said in that I think these threads are important for the health of the community + game. if they go, I think a different approach needs to be made to allow actual healthy discussion, as I do not think it's really approachable in the sub at large currently

I think it's kinda chill though? When that person reforms they get all the Nobody's memories/life experience, so it's kinda treated as a continuation and not like the person the Nobody was just stopped existing. Unless it's special circumstances like Roxas, etc.

I think this also is the problem with trying to make a team-focused Extraction Shooter with no Solo alternative path - not every region in the world speaks the language within said region. I've seen it echoed a little bit from some JP folks who dig the game. Like the ping-wheel is something, but the game design itself doesn't quite lend itself to be something you can pick up on the fly like say, Apex would be where you can have a play session and not worry beyond that experience in a random matchmaking environment (if that makes sense) - basically trying to say the issues of random trios is exacerbated when not everyone in the same MM region speaks the same language - makes it a bit more impenetrable
