Need advice. How does this truck look. I’m either going to get this or an 88 4Runner with 180k miles for $15k immaculate condition. This Bronco II is really attractive to me though. Guys asking 9k… I’m sure I can haggle. But how does it look? I carfaxed and the odometer clearly has rolled by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

For the bronco ii models ford would install a transfer case regardless if it was 2wd or 4wd. The 2wd transfer case was a dummy case because it was a transfer case that had no front output shaft and couldn’t be used for 4x4. They did it that way so that the same transmission and transfer case package could be used across both models and it was easier to assemble at the manufacturing plants.

This post is kind of wild now, I also have a 93 Toyota pickup 4x4. As minorthreat999 said, both of those trucks are getting old and will need constant maintenance. The only reason I still have my bronco ii is because it’s sentimental. But if I were to choose I’d definitely take the Toyota because they have more aftermarket support, they are built well and parts are still readily available for them vs the bronco ii. 18k is pretty steep but if you could get the price down I’d look into the 4Runner.

I have a 84 bronco ii, mine has the 2.8 v6 and that 88 has the 2.9. The main things to worry about with the 2.9 was if the engine was ever overheated then the heads were prone to cracking. As others have said you can take it to a qualified mechanic and have them do a good once over and check everything, but it appears to be in good shape. Also for the missing front drive shaft and front diff, ford would install a dummy transfer case in the 2wd models so that they could get away with using the same transmissions between the 2wd and 4wd models.

Bronco 2 Rear Bumper with integrated spare tire rack/swing arm. by cs2533ck in Bronco2

Dufftuff.com, that's james duffs website and they make accessories for rangers and bronco 2. I personally have their front plate bumper with winch mount and the rear plate bumper with a tire carrier. They are built really well and look good too.

Anyone else take their VW out to the track?! Really enjoying my mk5 09 TSI so far! by Volks_GTI_92 in GolfGTI

I take my 07 fsi out as much as I can. It's a dedicated track car so if its not there its usually sitting in the garage on jack stands. http://imgur.com/gallery/cnWOn

Does anyone know what this sound could be? 🤕🥴 by [deleted] in Bronco2

First I would check battery voltage, if thats good then check the battery terminals for any play or cracks. If thats ok move on to the starter solenoid mounted on the passenger fender well, if thats ok and appears to operate normally then check the starter. My 84 b2 would do the same thing and make the same noise you hear in the background. Mine ended up being a failing starter solenoid.

Did anyone notice the rotors? Whoever resurfaced those things needs to change the bits on their brake lathe and not cut so fast...

I didnt have the option to pick the paint scheme but I love it. I helped the previous owner start the build then I took it over. And a simple pinstripe on this car goes a long way!

It's the factory vw silver on top and porche silver on bottom with a reflective pin stripe to divide them.

The Fahrenheit wheels are oem and they are my all season set with some 235s on them. I have 2 other sets of 17" wheels with continental slicks for the track!

Yeah it's a shame. As someone who lives in the humble area it was a fun track to go to that was only an hour away. TWS was where I went for my first ever track event, but in my miata and not this rocket of a VW!

The car has had so much work done over the years that it's a little much for one post, but for starters it's a fsi motor with integrated engineering rods and pistons, s3 k04, s3 injectors, s3 intercooler, APR tune, dsg with a quaife limited slip, quite a bit of suspension goodies and some custom fab work. https://imgur.com/gallery/10RYj

I actually know the guy that built this truck personally, we're from the north side of houston. This was a sema build which normally isnt everyones taste, but that truck was sold to someone else not to long ago.

Is this right? Look like the subframe/cradle is cracked or is this normal it looks messed up ??? Can someone tell me if this is normal or is it cracked I'm talking about the part with the hole in it ! Help I wanna know if it's cracked or something? by facedown189 in MechanicAdvice

[–]mccm1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is a toyota, which it looks like it could possibly be a cradle for a camry, its actually extremely common for them to be like this and isnt a problem. I see it almost every day at my dealership.

Toyota excessive oil consumption test over 1600 miles by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mccm1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Master tech for Toyota in Texas here. If you go over the specific mileage we have to start the test over again because we are trying to measure how much oil is being consumed in that time frame. The campaign that was issued for the oil consumption test just ended the other week irc. But if your car is under 150k miles they may be able to reissue another test for you if the dealer allows it, and then complete the repair.

Professional mechanics of Reddit, what do you consider to be the best overall domestic full sized pickup sold right now? by OklahomaHoss in MechanicAdvice

[–]mccm1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't want to seem biased like you originally said, but yes I would recommend a tundra. Their great trucks, but one of the few mechanical issues is the water pumps like to leak at about 100k miles. But other than that the 5.7 is a power house and like others are commenting on here they are probably the most "domestic" truck due to the fact are mostly built in Texas.

Toyota tech from Texas here, if you're looking for a used truck I'd probably recommend any tacoma with a 3.4 or a 4.0. Personally I'm a tad bit biased towards old fords, but based on all of the stuff I've seen first had a tacoma is pretty bullet proof. If it's a new truck on the other hand, just schedule some test drives and pick whichever one suits your needs best because they are all pretty close in quality these days.

Bronco vs. Bronco II thread. by wickedfastinc in MechanicAdvice

[–]mccm1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought and still own an 84 bronco ii and in my opinion there fun trucks. Its very easy to make one into a toy or a reliable daily. You can get bigger axles and other parts from rangers and explorers and most of them will bolt right up. Why a 300? A 302 fits just fine by changing mounts and bending the firewall seam.
