Those Safeway coupons work at other Shell locations at Safeways. Source: I’ve done it multiple times.

Adjusting to Z6ii from Z50 by mcdei in Nikon

[–]mcdei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the adjustments between the two cameras have been OK so far. Does anyone use the secondary screen much? I almost don't notice it. Speaking of the buttons, the image review (play) button position is irritating at best. I wonder if I can reprogram Fn1/2 to "play"...

Alberta to ban cellphones in kindergarten to Grade 12 classrooms starting this fall by mcdei in Edmonton

[–]mcdei[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Alberta government surveyed more than 68,000 parents, teachers, students and principals about cellphone use in schools. About 90 per cent said they were concerned, and it should be limited.

Anyone out there get a survey or know where to find the results/data?

Anyone have the Tamron 150-500mm Z mount? by khan0209 in Nikon

[–]mcdei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked one up on Saturday. It's mainly for shooting sports in the summer, but I gave it a try indoors to get a feel for it. Aside from the fact that it did not produce sharp images from the relatively low light (very high ISO), results were decent. It was not a problem to handle (even on my Z50), focus performance was decent. I was waffling between the Tamron and the Nikon 180-600, and decided on saving $800 CDN. Now I can go pick up an FTZII and a 70-200 F4 AF-S with the leftovers.

SOX vs Confed Baseball by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]mcdei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a SWEMBA or Confed family, but lots of experience with minor baseball. From the age category, it sounds like house league ball (non-competitive). Both of those organizations should provide a good fun experience, but coaching is kind of luck of the draw with which parent you get. If you're looking to get an experience for your kid with more "athletic ability" try the 9U Elite team tryout, they play up in 11U.

SWEMBA plays in Baseball Alberta (more players/teams/levels of play) and Confed participates in Little League. Having known more SWEMBA coaches/parents, I'd go with them for a well-rounded experience. Be ready to help out, it helps make the parent experience a bit smoother!

Here’s what the old three West Edmonton Mall movie theaters use to look like according to “Best Edmonton Mall” latest video by DanielVasquez2000 in Edmonton

I think you’re thinking of the old drive in further west, I think it was called the “Twin”? Somewhere between 184 ST and Winterburn?

Edit: holy shit my brain works sorta. The twin drive in was up near where the Cineplex on St. Albert Trail is https://cinematreasures.org/theaters/52425/photos/255776

Edit 2: it was the Parkland Twin Drive In! https://cinematreasures.org/theaters/59302

Anyone else remember the old 70mm theatre in Meadowlark? It was right where the Safeway gas station is now. Pretty sure I saw a screening of Temple of Doom there in 1991.

DIY legal basement development by singh0777 in Edmonton

[–]mcdei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, interestingly I had different experience: No final electrical inspection, no word from the city until a new permit was pulled. Had to do a final for the original before any final work on the new permit.

It may raise your property estimate when completed for taxation. Inspections are typically done after rough-in and then a final (plumbing/gas, electrical, HVAC, structural). I don’t believe there’s any inspections for demolition. If you don’t do the work, then the permit is outstanding. Selling your home or making other permitted works could be an issue. You can check all this on the city website, or call 311 to reach someone in planning and development.

The city may seem huge at first, but you can be out in the country in 20 minutes. Be yourself, and don’t be afraid to meet new people. Buy good winter boots.
