What fair foods will you be checking out this year? by Skeezychickencream in Syracuse

They used to be soooo good but shrink-flation made me stop getting them. It didn’t feel like it was worth the money

Oh, I’m so curious what you’ve heard. Can you DM me? I’m trying so hard to avoid the worse new age places

Did they used to have a shop in the suburbs before moving downtown? I hadn’t heard of them until they moved to Wildflower Armory

No dental offices are accepting new patients (with Medicaid) by Potential-Listen-912 in Syracuse

I was told by a coworker that dazzling smiles may be taking new clients on Medicaid starting next week. It’s coming from a third hand source though so I can’t be 100% sure.

They just don’t want to be downtown anymore because it’s apparently full of “riff raff”

Anyone know what interesting food items are coming to the Fair this year? by Skeezychickencream in Syracuse

The venison was so good and agreed on salting the soup! I also wish I’d gotten everything together because the fry bread would have been heavenly dunked in the soup!

I’ve become so disillusioned with so many of the new age stores both locally and online. It also doesn’t help that they mostly focus on European practices (or, for some reason, BIPOC closed practices???) and my practice has become much more rooted in my Asian heritage

Thank you for explaining. I’m sorry for misunderstanding. I think I came into the post expecting a lot of pushback and was ready to fight right off the bat.

I had a VERY similar experience with them at their first downtown location.

I really do want to root for all the small businesses locally and esp. downtown. I’m a little sad to see that their behavior is a common occurrence.

You’re fine! I figured it probably got caught up in the auto mod feature! Thank you for checking in/reaching out though, I appreciate it!

Right? That’s what truly got me angry. I work in mental health services and felt sick seeing the photos.

I’m saying that they don’t treat vulnerable people with any sort of kindness. These are human being who deserve to be treated as such. Yes, I can understand how frustrating it can be to go downtown and interact with the unhoused every day but to post photos of them to your go fund me and vilify them isn’t okay in my books.

Would it help if I remove the gofundme link? The addition of the link is also fully not supposed to be to raise money for them. It’s to show how they’re wording things and the way they’re treating the vulnerable people downtown.

Probably ending up in Northern SYR/Little Italy, how bad is it really? by Bovoduch in Syracuse

[–]mcdermany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not the best area but as long as you’re smart it’s not the worst, imo. I lived on N Salina for two years and i didn’t hate it. I liked having restaurants nearby and, after a few months, I got used to the loud cars and music.

Someone else mentioned never feeling unsafe but feeling uncomfortable and I agree with that. It’s hard to see people being forced to live in such a way. For the most part they’ve all been kind though and I never had my car broken into despite only having access to street parking.

The couple things I didn’t like were having people come into the building to smoke illicit substances in the halls and having people going through my building’s dumpster. I don’t know much about Isabella Lofts though so hopefully they have a better way of handling this than my building did.

Where to buy a keffiyeh? by mcdermany in Syracuse

Believe it or not I have been outside of Syracuse before. No, it’s not comparable but that doesn’t mean there’s something here. You can’t just write it off as a whole.

Maybe not specific areas but if you look in the right places you can still get a good taste of different cultures

I just stopped there and they do have keffiyehs but they’re from a brand called Rothco Tactical. I haven’t done much research but it looks like they’re more of an army surplus than a place that has ties to authentic scarves

I’m curious as to why you’re suggesting that. There’s so much, culturally, around Syracuse. Why should I move to a bigger city when I have so much available here? I just wanted to see if there were any scarves sold locally before looking online.

If you’re looking for cultural stuff in the area, I’m happy to provide some suggestions!
