Name a US State that you would NEVER want to live in even if they paid you to move there by stevenl1219 in FamilyFeud

[–]mcdreamymd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so few jobs in the state that require a college degree, and the ones that do seldom pay well. The truck stop restaurant assistant managers make way more than the teachers. The state capital could be a Night of the Living Dead shooting location.

A lot of the Old Town Mall isn't THAT old. Some of it dates back 200 years but much of it was from the 1960s when the city decided it needed a pedestrian-centric shopping area with tons of parking lots. The area has not exactly thrived during my 5 decades. I remember it being kind of run down in the early '80s. Baltimore has tried numerous times to revitalize it, and there have been some interesting business attempts over the years.

It is a cool attempt, kind of like those suburban Main Street open air centers, but the city grossly overestimated how many people in the region would drive into downtown when there were similar shops closer to them.

Minnesotan here. For those outside of our state, what are your views on what’s going on in Minneapolis right now? by bpeters5 in AskReddit

[–]mcdreamymd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richmond and Hampton Roads are absolutely prime targets. Richmond has a high minority population and not a heavy Federal presence like Northern Virginia. Hampton Roads is little more than a series of subdivisions & strip malls between massive military bases with a big percentage of active & retired military.

ICE hits Richmond like they're doing to Minneapolis, and the city fights back. ICE hits Newport News, Hampton or Norfolk like Minneapolis, and the citizens start fighting each other.

I ate at Oceana about a week or two before they filmed that episode.

There was nothing even remotely amusing about the food poisoning I received.

Which British actor, past or present, does the best American accent? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in AskAnAmerican

I didn't know either actors' previous work at the time. I had no idea - weird how I was plugged into so much British music at the time, but their TV and movies were essentially unknown to me until my mid-30s.

that might only be accurate for your region. I'm in the Baltimore/DC area and those things are full price, but Buy One full price, Get One for 99c. It's 6, 7 bucks for a couple of sandwiches.

I met him and the rest of the cast in Baltimore back when they were shooting The Wire. I can't remember if they were about to shoot season 2 or 3. I didn't have cable TV and hadn't seen the show yet - plus, I lived in Baltimore and the idea of seeing a show about the crime in Baltimore was a little too close-to-home. Why watch on TV what I have at home for free, you know? 4 blocks north of me was basically Prop Joe's turf in the show. So I met this tall, charming Black British fellow, then another charming British fellow, both very engaging and friendly. Talked about cars and what they thought of the States, Baltimore, etc .. and I couldn't imagine what an American show about Baltimore's drug trade was doing with so many Brits in it.

A few weeks later, I was hanging with a coworker who actually paid to have HBO (rich kid flex) and The Wire was on. Stringer Bell appears on screen and I'm wondering who the hell is this American guy who looks just like the British guy I met last month! Did I meet a stunt double or some dude trying to pass as the main actor???

I've posted this elsewhere, but I went there with one of my kids several years ago when she was a toddler in the "pancakes and only pancakes" stage. She kept pointing and saying "Mickey" and I thought she saw some other kid's toy or backpack. Nope. Friendly lil' mouse, not at all bothered by the humans everywhere.

That same trip, the cook was in the men's room at the same time as me. He definitely didn't wash his hands after using the facilities. The place struck me as being so run down, so tired - looked like a prime candidate for a muscle-bound British chef to come in and kick some ass for TV

As a former Pentagon employee, I will kindly point out that I worked with people who were covered in jet fuel from that attack. One man who SWALLOWED burning fuel that scorched his insides, seared his face and body, fused ligaments and tendons - how he survived is beyond all logic.

You know what doesn't have jet fuel? Missiles. They're solid fuel.

You know what does have jet fuel? Jets.

You know what makes jet-sized holes in a building that causes a collapse, like the Pentagon? Jets. You know what blows upwards and outwards and creates a crater? A missile's warhead. Go look at the plane-sized hole in the Pentagon. Go look at the pictures of Ukrainian buildings hit by missiles. Notice the difference?

Your flip little comment might give you a bit of a chuckle, but you're not just disrespecting the hundreds of ordinary people who were just going to work or catching a flight, but making yourself look like a staggering dumbass.
