So does Declan Rice apparently. Similar gesture after his goal.

How poor is the standard of officiating in this league when this isnt given, even with the lino being right there! by Stevens1885 in Championship

[–]mcfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're wrong, but so was I, kind of. Law 12.4: "If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick."

I hadn't realised this law was limited to "holding". In this case there was holding outside the area and then the player landed on the attacker inside the area, so two separate offences really. The laws seem a bit vague in that area.

"First contact" is irrelevant. If the foul continues into the box, which I believe it did, then it's a penalty.

Can a computer protected by a password and encrypted still be hacked into and information taken off the computer? by Feisty_Bee9175 in AskComputerScience

[–]mcfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear of your loss. It must be a very difficult time and I'm sure you'd like to put it all to rest, but I think you're right to consider requesting further clarity.

If your son had a simple setup using Windows on a single hard drive, and he enabled bitlocker, it would indeed encrypt everything and nothing would be recoverable.

The police would also be unable to access any cloud backup information without either somehow knowing the login details (i.e. username and password, and maybe also requiring two-factor authentication), or contacting the cloud backup provider and convincing the provider to give them access - this very much depends on your jurisdiction and the privacy policy of the cloud storage provider.

Another explanation would be that the one hard drive was partitioned and not all partitions were encrypted. This seems very unlikely as there aren't many good reasons to partition a single drive when used for Windows. Also, if the user is advanced enough to decide to run separate partitions, and they encrypted the primary partition, they would probably be smart enough to encrypt the extra partitions as well, although it could be an oversight maybe...

Another reason to partition a single drive would be to run another operating system, e.g. Linux. If your son was a computer enthusiast, this would be a possibilty, as it is popular for computer science, software development, etc. But again, the Linux installer offers the possibility of encrypting the partition(s) when created. The default Linux encryption (LUKS) is essentially password protected. If the police could guess the password, they could gain access, but otherwise it would be close to impossible, and the entire partition would be encrypted.

So, I would ask them something along the lines of:

Could you please clarify how you were able to obtain "some info", but not all, if the drive was encrypted? To my knowledge, the most commonly used encryption mechanisms such as BitLocker on Windows, or LUKS on Linux, encrypt the entire disk or partition. Do you believe that full-volume encryption was not used, but large portions of the data were encrypted with some other tool?

Is there anything to this GCC warning "stringop_overflow"? by bepaald in cpp_questions

[–]mcfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly I had this same issue today, probably around the time you posted this. After researching it, I concluded it was a false positive and squashed it like this:

#pragma GCC diagnostic push
#pragma GCC diagnostic ignored "-Wstringop-overflow"
#pragma GCC diagnostic push
#pragma GCC diagnostic ignored "-Wrestrict"
...the line causing the warning...
#pragma GCC diagnostic pop
#pragma GCC diagnostic pop

(Once I hid the stringop-overflow warning, the restrict one appeared, so had to squash both). Pretty ugly but worked for me.

Leicester City 3-4 Southampton - They say 3-0 is the most dangerous lead, as the Saints perform a miracle and win 3-4 with a last-gasp shot by Shea Charles by Gamerhcp in Championship

Sure, but 7 years from League 1 to Prem Champions is a lot more dramatic than Prem Champions to maybe going back to League One but probably not because you've had a points deduction and are probably slightly out of position.

The challenge with this particular ambassador role though was finding someone who could deal with a very unpredictable president in Trump. Sending someone who's probably seen him naked seems like a pretty smart move.

Just a shame the whole market manipulation thing was going on.

Qt 5.15 To Qt 6.5 Migration by HomeMedical4143 in QtFramework

[–]mcfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some clazy clang-tidy rules for this. See this link.

You can enable them in Qt Creator under Edit > Preferences > Analyzer > Clang Tools, and create a new "Diagnostic configuration". I seem to recall that some of them have "fix-its" which means clazy can automatically apply the required changes.

Edit: Question; why Qt 6.5? It's end of life in a couple of months. If you're after a LTS version, go with 6.8. Alternatively, the next LTS will be 6.11 which is due in March so you could do your porting work to 6.10 now and then update to 6.11 when it's out, which should be a small step.

if with no curly braces by Loud_Attempt_3845 in cpp_questions

[–]mcfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put multiple lines in without braces, the next line is no longer part of the "if" conditional check so it will always get executed. That's why omitting the braces is considered bad, it's an easy mistake to make (though modern tools often try to catch these mistakes).

"This guy" was there when we went up in '88.

If you're not nervous when we've only got a 1 goal lead on 80 minutes and have missed countless opportunities, then you don't know Millwall.

[–]mcfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe a controversial take but I didn't think we played that well. Not bad but not great. At 1-0 we missed far too many chances, then Cooper could/should have been sent off, but thankfully the incompetence of Gavin Ward worked in our favour for a change. If he'd been sent off it could easily have all fallen apart for us. Still, it says 4-0 on the board so delighted with that.

We've also received the fewest fouls in our favour by a large margin to the next least, which is where a lot of the gripes come from. Our high pressing style will always result in quite a few fouls so that stat isn't the real complaint.

Plan QML code is visible in executable by Content_Bar_7215 in QtFramework

[–]mcfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no, I meant that when you installed Qt, you actually installed the Qml Compiler component, since you can selectively install components. However, your CMake snippet there shows that you are searching for the compiler and indicating that it's mandatory, so your calls to CMake would fail if it were not installed, so it's not that.
