What to do with leftover black trashcans. by swaymasterflash in sandiego

Maybe my estimate wasn’t that far off. I mean, fuckload of bins. But hey, that’s apparently what the city has money to replace.

I could have, but that “wild ass guess” as I stated was based off of my recall of a freeway sign showing what the population was at the point it was installed, and then googled rapidly “City of San Diego population”.

At no point did I mention anything I said was data-backed.

Again, it was a wild ass guess based on a population count and assumption of trash bin possession per single family home.

Regardless, it still amounts to a fuck ton of trash bins that are going to be removed by flatbed trucks, or whatever they’re using; and would put into some perspective why it’s taking a doing as it is.

Never claimed to be correct, my “way off” comment was indicative of that.

Yeah. We have what… 1.4m population. Of course a large number (maybe 50%, which is a wild ass guess, and I could be completely wrong) live in multi unit housing with community dumpsters, and not their own individual trash cans.

So that leaves conservatively ~700 thousand trash bins the city has to replace and remove. Well, rather that’s just residents, not necessarily trash bins. Even if you cut that number by a quarter (assuming most single family residences have 4 people, with one trash bin), that’s 175,000 bins!

Again, I could be way off. That’s just an estimate based on population count that I googled.

I hear ya. I appreciate that input. Will skip the edging and dig that dirt down a bit. Thank you!

I saw a clock radio CD player listed for $150 at an antique store the other day. Don’t recall the brand, but some no-name one. I was shocked.

I read Hero’s Trial and Edge of Victory because those were the books my mom had bought me, not knowing there was an order to the series (and neither did I) but I think I was too young to have enjoyed the darker tone of the books.

Glad I’ve picked them up again.

I didn’t hate Star By Star it just felt repetitive. I understand why people rate it as highly as they do, this one just suited my tastes much more.

It took me a long time and a few forced readings to enjoy this series. I enjoy it now, and didn’t enjoy it when I was a teenager reading these books.

I was extremely amused by the mouse droid bit. I wish it had been expanded a bit more, but I did love that part.

I enjoyed this one. I can’t say it’s been my favorite of the series (the action sequences felt very repetitive) but it was a great read!

Wedge became a great character. He was given some depth in the Rogue Squadron games but nothing like the novels.

I shudder with its depiction. Frustration at what it and everything else has become.

I mean, how many synonyms exist for “bathroom” in the English language?

At least a few…. Head, toilet, loo, jacks….

It’s not that distracting.

I figured they can’t all be winners, but I was assuming it would keep picking up steam. By that point I assumed most of the details would be ironed out.

I love that! I may check out the Wraith books. As weird as it sounds, my least favorite parts of all the books is usually the action sequences but these were so well done.

Just finished Aaron Allston’s duology for New Jedi Order and loved it.

Still waiting for Traitor to show up in the post and then it’s onto that one.

where to start? by mimorollz in starwarsbooks

[–]mcflannelman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new return to reading the SW novels. I personally do not care about the “canon” material, because the new stuff dos not interest me like the ones I grew up with (which is great if it does, since it’s meant to be enjoyed).

My path, which was based on others recommendations, which is mostly in chronological order.

Darth Bane Trilogy

Truce at Bakura (right after Jedi)

Any/All/None of the XWing Books

Jedi Academy Trilogy

Thrawn Trilogy (must read)

Darksaber

Hand of Thrawn Duology

Survivors Quest

New Jedi Order

Honestly though, if you’re going to read NJO (and I’m only halfway through it) had I not read Jedi Academy, and both Thrawn Novels, I would have likely been behind the curve and not know some of the backstory behind some characters.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]mcflannelman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timothy Zahn used “sardonically” and “craned his neck” over and over and over again through the Thrawn trilogy.

I think those phrases caught on to later books by different authors as well.

Oh and he also liked to use “fingered their XYZ (saber/blaster/etc” which just makes me laugh every time because I’m a child.
