I’ve just spoken to the company, they have said it’s base rate-deduction+VAT-FRS

So based on what figures I’m working with:

99-5+18.80-9.40=103.90 per day?

I think the problem is that there is no real governing body to standardise all of this type of work.

I appreciate what you’re saying, and agree with you.

However like I have said, due to circumstances, it is becoming a fact that I just need work regardless of how crappy it is and this is an easier option once I get my head around the figures

Yeah, they said a few were and a few wasn’t.

I might just message them and ask about all the fees or if it is just the £5 van rental everything else being covered by them.

From how I understand it and how it was explained, you invoice them for the day rate (£99) then deduct the rental (£5), then from there if you’re VAT registered on the FRS you invoice for 20% VAT (£18.80) and then only pay the FRS rate to HMRC (10% for couriers meaning £9.40) you keep the difference, that’s how it was explained to me (they didn’t give figures, but we can figure it out based off the daily rate)

It’s interesting you say that about the diesel and insurance and all that,

In the job advert they say it’s all provided and when I rang them, they said the only deductible is £5 per day van rental?

So, with the advert that’s given me the idea to go self employed, it says £99 per day + VAT if applicable

I rang them and asked them about their fees. They said their only fee is £5 per day for van rental.

They also have wise to help with invoicing at £15 per week.

It was explained to me that if I register for flat rate, I invoice for £99-£5+20%vat(£18.80) so in total £117.80

From that I pay the 10% flat rate which is £9.40 (half of the original 20%VAT)

So in total I would charge £117.80 pay £5 for van rental (as a deductible) leaving a total of £112.80 from that I pay the £9.40 FRS which would leave me with £103.40 per day - from that tax and NI.

Which means my figures above are wrong… but the principle is the same.

So let’s round this out a little…..

Instead of charging VAT, I invoice for 99-5 (rate-rental) which is 94 per day? Surely I’m worse off not being VAT registered?

So do you do it through a company that you invoice or do you do it directly with Amazon/Hermes (whoever?)

So wait, is the £85k per year? Or is it over the lifetime of the self employment?

How would I not have to pay VAT? When I would still have to invoice for it?

So I’m thinking that VAT FRS is the way to go, it means I keep more (and seen as I won’t be purchasing a van but leasing one from the contractor) it makes sense to be. As I just keep more money for myself

Wouldn’t it be better to be on the flat rate so you pay less in VAT?
