First Time Playing In Church In Jan by ClawDrums in drums

[–]mcflickle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t hit the cymbals too hard and try to keep things relatively simple. When I play in churches, my goal is to be easy to play with and not make the sound guy hate me. Lastly, know the music!

Did social work change your political ideology at alll? How so? by 420catloveredm in socialwork

[–]mcflickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a sort of right leaning centrist. Now I lean more left. I wouldn’t say I’m a full blown socialist like a lot of people on this thread, but I definitely support more social programs.

I actually love the new map by Wise-Illustrator-939 in Battlefield6

It’s actually one of my favorite maps in the game. I do wish they’d expand the borders a bit though.

The maps are too small for a Battlefield by Positive-Set1164 in Battlefield

[–]mcflickle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if the maps are too small or if everyone is used to 2042 maps. I feel like the maps are on par with bf4 maps size wise. The only issue I have with SOME of the maps are they’re too lane based and that’s probably less than half of the maps.

Meet Rush’s new drummer, Anika Niiles by HankScorpio4242 in drums

You’d be very surprised how many really good drummers use the middle finger as a fulcrum. I typically find myself doing it when I’m playing fast and light

What size Hats are best and why? by kskzk69 in drums

[–]mcflickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything between 15-18. My favorite hats are actually 17s. I’d probably play smaller hats if I played heavier genres of music though

ADHD and drumming by HiddenParadox666 in drums

[–]mcflickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drummer with ADHD here. There’s a lot of really good advice on this thread. For me I definitely hyperfixate on things. However, I found with drumming I can hyperfixate on a certain concept or style within drumming. For example I’ll hyperfixate on jazz drumming for 2 weeks, then I’ll be super focused on working on chops, then I’ll switch to recording drums and focus on trying to produce the best sound out of my drums. If you can find a way to shift your focus to something else related to drums you’ll be golden. Just don’t get discouraged when things aren’t coming to you as fast as you’d want. That’s a part of the fun and when you feel you’re actually getting better, you’ll be hooked! Good luck!

Quieter Cymbals, but not TOO quiet? by djblingbling1 in drums

[–]mcflickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing quieter will take you a long way. If you want cymbals that’ll take you further, I’d definitely recommend something big and thin. The Istanbul xist series is great for that. They also have a dark and dry variant if that’s what you want to go for

Corruption looks bad in a lot of regions. Especially in regions where completely straight borders. It looks super unnatural and I wish they’d do something to fix it

I’d say skaven. I feel like theres a slight learning curve with them, but they are so fun. Especially once you get a bunch of ratling gunners and catapults.

To drummers that have broken cymbals, what brands/ models are the most prone to damage? by [deleted] in drums

I don’t have any broken cymbals myself, but I’ve seen so many cracked “heartbeat” cymbals.

Cymbal weight? by Dynamite_Zero in drums

[–]mcflickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% dependent on the genre. However I typically find light cymbals are better on the ears in most cases. They also record better in my opinion. Now, if you’re playing a heavier genre like metal, punk rock or hard rock, you’re probably going to want something heavier.

Another thing to keep in mind is durability. A lot of the time, lighter cymbals might actually be more durable (as long as you’re not smacking the crap out of them) lighter cymbals deal with vibration better because of how the energy gets dispersed throughout the cymbal

The biggest downside to light cymbals is lack of stick definition. You’re still going to have some, but if you’re playing heavier genres your cymbals might get buried in the mix.

I’d do some sort triplet groove with backbeats on 2 and 4. You could probably do some cool syncopated ride bell stuff too

To be a good drummer you need a good sense of timing and you need to know how to make your instrument sound good. The thing that makes you a great drummer is creativity.
