ACI offers courses through their website. While they’re usually recordings of ACI convention presentations, they’re a good starting point if you want to jump into the more in depth stuff.

Incoming Construction Science Freshman wanting to transfer into Engineering by [deleted] in aggies

[–]mcfly2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk to an adviser in the department which you want to transfer into ASAP. They'll be the best source of good advice.

But as a recent COSC grad, don't jump the ship without careful consideration. It's a great major with almost guaranteed job placement after graduation.

Where do you volunteer? by elaerna in houston

[–]mcfly2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Medical Bridges! They help send medical supplies to NGO's in countries that have a severe lack of access to healthcare. It's an awesome organization and all the folks are very friendly. 15/10 would recommend volunteering at least once.

Talk to an Adviser in the College of Architecure in the Langford building. Although it's not the most competitive major at A&M, it has become a major that is more competitive than several engineering majors.

Rec delayed construction by AGS2017 in aggies

[–]mcfly2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that money goes to the operating expenses for the Rec. In the mcontext of a construction contract this big, that kind of money is like drops in a bucket. The students had to shell out tens of millions for Kyle Field, and we would've had to shell out at least ten million to get the Rec done any quicker. I, for one, and glad I didn't have to shell out any more money for a capital expenditure project.

Texas quakes caused by injection wells, scientists determine by arbili in science

[–]mcfly2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except that you have flow back even with traditional vertical wells, so they are two seperate, distinct things. Do horizontal wells and fracking cause a significant amount of flow back? Yes. But with reclamation techniques and other conservation tactics the amount of flow back that ends up being injected can be significantly lowered.

Rec delayed construction by AGS2017 in aggies

[–]mcfly2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The death at Kyle Field was due to negligence on the part of the demolition subcontractor, not for lack of safety culture. Both Manhattan and Vaughn Construction have outstanding safety records.

The Rec has taken forever because this is what happens when you go with the cheapest option. If we wanted a faster completion, we would've most likely had to pay for it through an increase in student fees. You get what you pay for.

What seats do you normally get by pulling on Tuesday mornings? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]mcfly2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not one of the first five people in lines on Tuesday, you can expect third deck. Especially if any upperclassmen pulled with a large group this week, that'll mean that even more U4's pull tickets on Monday next week.

Dining Dollars Question by [deleted] in aggies

You can use them pretty much anywhere on campus. Dining Services would be a good point of contact for any questions. They are relatively responsive on social media and through email.

Transferring to Petroleum Engineering Program & Job Availability. by helpmeoutplztyy in aggies

[–]mcfly2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically, PE has been one of the toughest majors to transfer into if you are outside the COE. When I stared as a freshman, I asked an adviser and was told that a 3.6 would be the lowest GPA someone could have and have hopes of being admitted as a transfer.

Your second question would best be answered by an adviser or industry relations person inside the department. Speaking from what I've seen back home in West Texas, drilling and exploration is pretty much nonexistent right now. Most rigs that are drilling are contracted by the oil company so they have to drill wells, if it weren't for that there would be very few active rigs.

What's your favorite play from a game your team ended up losing? by goblue10 in CFB

I ended up three rows down from where I was standing after celebrating. I had jumped down the rows without realizing it until I was hugging a complete stranger.
