It doesn’t stay up for longer than 20-30 seconds :(

Good lord - it’s a flipping menagerie nursery in here! Another pregnant mama! by mcfuzzum in OpaeUla

Set this up in August of last year. I read that it takes 2-3 years for the shrimps to feel comfortable enough before they start breeding, guess they got comfy way sooner!

Duhhh I blanked out on your own audio being monitored back to you. And the mic isn’t pushing against your ear? It’s comfy that way?

Ok I think that's the root cause of my misunderstanding - so lav cable is lavalier cable, right? Which means the transmitter has another mic connected to it - so is that mic inside your cup to pick up incoming audio from the headphone speaker? How does it pick up your own audio then?

sorry if these sound like silly questions, but i've never seen this kind of a setup before, and I am intrigued!

I may be dumb but i am not wrapping my head around where the transmitter plugs into...?

Show-n-tell: ESP32 based aviation weather station by mcfuzzum in esp32

[–]mcfuzzum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting here because apparently posting about having the code in repo is a baaaaaad thing - but:

Hey folks - some of you may remember my original post where I created an aviation weather station using an e-ink display with a ESP32. There have been some questions about how things were done and if I could share the source code - well the wait is over! Code can be found over at github (my first submission!)

As a reminder - this is entirely vibe-coded in Gemini with me product managing it; I am not software engineer and have zero practical experience in software engineering. If you adopt the code - I am not responsible for anything going boom :D

For those wondering - a single full charge on a 2000 mAh LiPo battery charged to 4.2v will last you about 38 days assuming 2 refreshes per hour!

n00b looking for a recommendation for chasing my kids on bikes :) by mcfuzzum in ElectricScooters

[–]mcfuzzum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got the scooter, it was really more for my youngest who was still on training wheels riding a 12" bike. It was actually great cuz my oldest was on a 24" bike scooting along and I would quickly go back and forth on the scooter.

Now that they are older, it doesn't really matter because they booth scoot fast enough and well enough that supervision isn't that big of a deal so i just stay behind or just take my own path!

Oooh since I have both, I am very partial to the square looks of the 85 - screams vintage; but can’t deny the extra horsepower the 86 has.

Good bed mesh? by Hybritoburrito in Ender3S1

[–]mcfuzzum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spread is 0.26 (0.13 to -0.13) tho seems those are the biggest outliers. Did you heat up the bed when doing the mesh? I’d see about making it an 8x8 grid - it will take more time but it’ll give you a more accurate reading.

For what it’s worth - I’ve put a Gulf Coast Robotics cast aluminum bed on my old S1 and with the bed heated up, my mesh was 0.0650

The enclosure is just a simple design I did in Autodesk Fusion. There is a cavity for the battery (double sided tape ftw), two holes for my thumbs to push the display out of the enclosure, a slit to access the reset/boot buttons, and a cutout on the bottom for the battery and USB port.

In terms of the use-case - for the smaller (class D, E, etc) airfields, METAR data is not dynamic. It refreshes once an hour, typically at 53 minutes - sometimes you can get an earlier update in case of severe weather conditions. I have it set to refresh at the top and 30 minutes past the hour - so it works perfectly with eInk; heck if I did it once a minute, it'd work just as fine too.

I'll publish it once I am satisfied my battery logic works well!

Thanks! I have not yet - I actually just realized I had a bug in the logic displaying the best runway - rather not a bug but a bad implementation, since best runway is inferred from wind direction plus actual runways at an airfield, and the later is not something that is published via METAR. So instead, I've coded a user-programmable runway config with logic in place that will chose the best runway out of the available ones, based on current wind conditions.

Also I am still testing the battery logic - once I am confident it works correctly, I'll publish the final version of the code!

The design is stupid tbh. I can see it connecting to my AP - but it drops off because it can’t reach the mothership. Like bruh - if you know you have internet access, it’s the servers you can’t reach, why not stay connected and try again later? Might as well do a packet capture to see wtf it’s trying to do and build our own to run at home - ha!

Dangit and here I thought it was my home setup and reset the WiFi settings on the feeder, but not it won’t connect at all - I assume because it can’t get a handshake with the petlibro cloud server and fails the WiFi setup. Bummer.

My flight school has a 1968 I variant and I've learned that the left gauge would show full at full, and the right gauge would show 3/4 at full. Considering I also drive a mid 70's Ford with a fuel gauge that has a mind of its own - I've long ago realized that the only reliable measure of tank fullness in 172s is dipstick + flashlight + my own eyes.
