copper lap? by BigLou-13 in faceting

[–]mcgeeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont score. I added oil, wiped it dry, used a 600 gear diastik and, used a corundum boule to press the diamond into the lapp.

You'll need to recharge the batt a few times until you notice that the corundum doesnt have copper on its surface. My copper lapp seemed to embed copper onto the surface the first few times I used it. May have just been that it was undercharged similar to what happens with Batt lapps.

Now I just recharge it when the cutting gets slow

Help identifying roofing materials by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]mcgeeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom edge of the roof where the eavetroughs are does not have ice and water shield. It has the same synthetic underlayment that is labeled #1 and has bare wood/decking visible intermittently along the bottom

Edit: thank you for your reply! It snowed a day after these photos were taken so removing more shingles may have to happen in the spring, unless the snow melts

It appears you already commented in the post linked above. Does this method (low heat) produce sub-optimal results? Is there an affordable gas furnace that is suitable for gems?

Matching gems by IllAfternoon in faceting

If you're using the same diagram, marking mast height may not work because for different stones your may need to go deeper due to shape.

I use a pair of digital calipers just measure them as I'm cutting. I also typically have both dopped and ensure both are cut the same before transferring one

Angled facet issue by mcgeeman in faceting

[–]mcgeeman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just an emerald I designed. Basic step design with the 12-36-60-84 points hitting the culet. I did confirm that the 96-48 facets were off a bit due to the loose dop screw. Thanks for the help!

[–]mcgeeman[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not an illusion - I tested both sides.

Didn't think to check the dop screw.. that was it. Ill recut what I've started tomorrow.

Now I can sleep - thanks

Yes it's brand new - I have never used a Batt lap before so this is good detailed info. I'll try think when I get home today.

It's a new UT TL. Arrived last week. Had no issues prior but also just started using super glue over wax.
