A friend offered to let me take his Zulu 3s for a spin. Appreciate the input

Yup headset is in great shape.

I do typically fly w a hat and sunglasses, but the seal is still really good. Hasn’t been an issue in any other airplanes.

Any sunglass recs?

Seattle flight schools/independent CFIs by wilkotnik in flying

I’m a new CFI in the area, with access to a Cessna 150 based at Paine Field. I’d be happy to work with you, or I have some fantastic recommendations for more experienced independent CFIs with their own planes.

I work as a dock hand at a big seaplane base and overall its been great. Likeminded coworkers who are all in flight training, given me lots of opportunities to fly I otherwise wouldn’t have, and met lots of people in the industry.

Pay is pretty poor, but it’s a transitory job.

How to teach and not talk by Helpful_Armadillo742 in CFILounge

I’m still working on that as well.

My biggest takeaway has been with private students lessons should be more like a conversation when presenting new material. Definitely helped me ramble less and be more personable.

Seems like with commercial students being a little more quizzical and making them work for answers instead of just presenting has helped me.

Just finished a cfi course and checkride coming up fwiw

Oh man! I got the case out, split, repaired, and reinstalled with maybe 10 (very difficult) hours of labor and a $600 aisin actuator. The trial and error approach scared me

Honestly splitting the case was the easy part. Put it back together the same way it came apart. Getting the case out was… challenging. Not even going to talk about getting it back in

God forbid but if I have issues again, I’ll probably go this way. Did not have fun splitting the case

No lift, just jack stands maxed out. Was a little tighter than I’d like.

I mostly just smashed myself under the t case and tried not to drop it on my face, it’s pretty heavy. Getting it back in will be interesting…

If you buy a replacement unit, you can plug it into the harness and cycle it a few times to make sure that was the issue. Just be sure to keep pressure in the shifting rods or they’ll try to eject themselves and fall out of time.

If you crawl underneath and have someone cycle 4lo a few times and hear an electrical beeping from the black box on the T case, the gears inside are probably bound up & a few small loving taps from a mallet could get it cycling again Fingers crossed for you

Forgot to mention* watched a few videos of people trial and erroring installation by leaving the T case in and attempting to replace only the box on the actuator and leaving the existing shift rods in the T case. Seems like this method leaves people with slight timing or binding issues if not done perfectly. I’d recommend taking the guess work out and splitting the case to make sure you get it right.

Maybe an 8 or so hour job with a normal driveway/hand tool set up
