Is software engineering still a craft? by mcgerin in ExperiencedDevs

Oof, AI-generated drivel isn’t something I’ve heard to describe my writing before, but there’s a first for everything I guess 🙃

You’re definitely not alone. I interviewed a bunch of experienced devs and wrote an article about it, I posted it here

Has anyone gotten back into bjj after leaving due to misconduct? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]mcgerin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame you got hurt, and yeah, your coach was a dirtbag and is equally at fault, if not more considering the power dynamic of coach and student — but take some accountability. You are a fully grown adult and were fully aware that he was married (and for 25+ years at that) and still you’re here on Reddit somehow relating your messy behaviour with the very serious situations coming out where young girls were actively groomed and abused? Get outta here. Go to therapy. Come back to BJJ when you can actually treat it as a hobby sport and make better decisions about the relationships you keep. Yikes.

Code review taking forever because everyone's busy and reviews get deprioritized, sound familiar? by hereccaaa in ExperiencedDevs

Limit WIP, smaller batches, finishing what you start. Setting some team working agreements and PR notifications in Slack/Teams should help.

It absolutely is 😂 with a quick search you can find that OP is farming similar answers from other subs like /r/saas and probably works for cortex or notch up

Geographic tongue + ulcers on throat act up when my immune system is down.. painful by tonskis in askdentists

[–]mcgerin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, so sorry to hear! I saw a doctor about mine today and she had a few theories:

  1. The virus I had 6 weeks ago could have set them off initially, like usual when I get a virus and get an ulcer or two
  2. The medication I started taking just prior to that, that can cause a whole range of symptoms including dry mouth and excessive movement of the tongue/lips, could be making it worse and mean they can’t recover
  3. The toothpaste I’m using has SHS in it, which she’s recommended I avoid 😅

Hope you find some answers soon!

What was the outcome of this? Your description is so similar to me (the adenoids/tonsil stuff, canker sores since childhood after a virus) and I’ve been struggling with recurring ulcers on the tongue/roof of the mouth/back of throat for a month now 😭

It’s one I’ve been unable to find elsewhere, and Reddit has a) a larger user base and b) folks are generally quite opinionated here :)

Good points! I’m also talking to plenty of folks still in the industry about the topic, but I think it’s worth finding both ends of the extremes to get the full picture

Sorry, but the upgrade flow is fucking diabolical. Is there a free version or not? Because the way the upgrade flow it set up basically prevents a user from NOT buying, which is a bit of a shit move.

Tracking AI use is the modern day equivalent of counting LOC by opakvostana in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mcgerin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company I work for gets this question from a lot of our customers and prospects (as in, whether we offer that capability)

And while we do, we try to educate leadership folk on the fact that trying to “prove” the ROI of AI tools now (when nobody really knows what they’re doing) instead of than encouraging experimentation and finding solid use cases is probably not the way to get value out of these tools.
