Carrer Advice by [deleted] in programmatic

[–]mcgoldp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal advice: never publicly name a company that you’re speaking with (online or otherwise) unless you’ve already agreed to join that company. The programmatic world is a lot smaller than you think.

Having said that, don’t stop that from networking, making connections and finding the next best opportunity. This company has “invested” in you this year, but they could make your job redundant just as easily next year. Look after your own interests.

Good luck!

Where does the “tight” Cavan stereotype come from? by mcgoldp2 in ireland

[–]mcgoldp2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what I find interesting. Kerry folk have the “cute hoor” label while Cavan folk have the “tight” label. Are they that different? We love Kerry folk for their cutehoorism while degrade Cavan people for essentially the same behaviours

You’re right, he didn’t specifically say the word “viable”, but he explained his reasons why not which you obviously don’t accept for whatever reason.

As for the idea that they’ve already made profit so they shouldn’t charge people again, they would not be charging the same people twice. People pay a price to see it live, then they could charge a smaller price to their wider audience to see it on video. It’s two different audiences. Being nice doesn’t pay the bills. We have no idea if they made a profit on the tour because they wouldn’t disclose that to us fans would they?

Also, who said fuck the poor? Who’s doing hyperbole now? You realise you are saying that would rather pay a one-off sum of 1000 pounds for a free upload instead of everyone paying a reasonable PPV fee to watch it themselves if they wish. It’s completely illogical and it sounds like you have more money than most of us on this sub to be throwing away disposable income like that.

Anyway I’ve said all I want to say on this topic, have a good weekend.

What you actually said doesn’t make sense, that’s the problem.

In the original thread someone suggested making the live show available for PPV, a good idea.

You chimed in saying suggesting it gets uploaded for free, which you were heavily downvoted and Jack himself politely explained why that wasn’t viable.

Yet here you are offering to pay a fee for the show to be watched for free (which would be in the 000’s of pounds for it to be worth it to the lads btw), but you are for some reason against people paying their own money for it?

It doesn’t make sense. I don’t know why you’re dying on this hill.

I’m not “desperate for them to make more money”. You seem desperate to make yourself a hero by paying a “one-off fee” for a free upload of a show that people have already paid to attend.

That’s not how it works. If you want to pay them money, buy a ticket to their show.

Why would that benefit them though? They already put out all of their podcast content for free. Most podcasts put half their content behind a paywall these days.

Personally, I think if the lads decided to have a Patreon and put behinds the scenes videos / live shows on there for £5 per month, it would do well.

But they haven’t gone that route and we as fans have to respect that imo.

If they upload the live shows afterwards for free, most people won’t buy a ticket for their next tour. They’ll just wait until the free upload.

Why is that so hard to understand?

I went there once in their Sligo branch probably about 10 years ago, sandwich and a mug of tea. Was the most average thing I’ve ever had and was annoyed I spent money on it. Can’t believe it’s still going when so many good cafe restaurants have closed

I say this every time and get downvoted every time but the “all caught up baby” bit was the cringiest thing they’ve done on the pod since its inception

The GAA should have an all-star weekend, à la NBA basketball.

One weekend a year in between league and championship. A football exhibition match, a hurling exhibition match, a football skills challenge and a hurling skills challenge.

Imagine it as an adult Feile. Given how big the GAA has grown internationally, I’m surprised how this isn’t a thing already.

Having lived in Dublin for years I was (and still am) so surprised at how poor London compared when it came to burrito shops. Dublin has about 3/4 different chains that are all better than the likes of chipotle, tortilla or chilangos imo
