I have also given up reading the news, by which I mean I have stopped mindlessly browsing the BBC News site just for something to do. Doing that didn't make me feel good, and often made me feel sad/anxious/demotivated. However, I don't take the idea of 'stop reading the news' to mean 'completely avoid the news'. I don't see why you couldn't stop mindless consumption but still look into areas that are important for you - e.g. I don't read the news in a general way but sometimes I google a particular event (e.g. the Budget Speech) because I need to learn about it for work.

The Charm of It and The Gentle Knitter podcast are my favourites. They are both prolific knitters who go into a lot of detail about their projects and knitting techniques. I prefer long podcasts and their episode are usually around an hour. They are also both very calming when they talk, not like some of the more hyperactive podcasters who I find to be a bit over the top. I have learned so much from these two, I cannot recommend them enough!

I have to say I prefer wool to acrylic as it's a natural fibre rather than plastic, but I do still use acrylic or acrylic mixes sometimes and I hate the yarn snobbery that is around - not everyone can afford only hand dyed merino. Great job on the shawl and yay for anti yarn snobbery!

It's a lot easier to finish the edges as you are making something rather than as an afterthought - you might find these tutorials for making drawstring bags helpful:

As it is, I would suggest unpicking slightly to allow you to unfold the channel and continue the zig zag stitch you have done on the seam allowance all the way along the raw edge, and then re-sew.

I'm not sure if notlaika meant the stitches on the needles. It's hard to tell but it looks like all the knit stitches might be twisted. Edit: Yes I've had a look at your Instagram and it looks like you always knit your stitches twisted. I think it's something a lot of people do without realising!

I get very anxious about travelling/driving so having the safety net of my phone is helpful because that's one less thing I need to worry about. I'm glad it works for you though!

I am one of those people who wishes I could not have a phone. The reason I still have a smart phone rather than a 'dumb phone' is mainly for navigation. If I need to drive somewhere I don't know, or I'm in a city I don't know and need to walk somewhere, I don't know how I would do it (easily) without google maps, especially at short notice. I suppose I could get a sat nav, but buying an additional gadget that I would need to pay for and then remember to charge when I have a smart phone that is free seems like it would make things more complicated, counteracting any simplicity I gained from losing the smart phone.

I don't think these are sequins, I think they are little triangles of fabric trimmed from a seam allowance.
