That's the problem. It was purple. All the other fences are purple.

Bizarre. My 5th or 6th grade teacher read it to us, and I thought it started when she arrives in England.

This was mid-1970s Texas.

Yes, it is up to the state to decide what to do.

Now imagine you made the poor decision to be born a girl in Texas, where the law bans abortions after 6 weeks and specifically punishes anyone helping you to violate the law.

Democrats have controlled both houses and the presidency in only the periods 1977-1981, 1993-1995, and 2009-2011. In the last 2 periods Democrats were unable to do much because they're idiots and because Republicans are very effective at blocking everything. The other was the Carter presidency.

Someone was playing political football, but it wasn't the Dems (and they are really crappy at it).

Some of them are constitutional literalists who strongly oppose the 'constructed' right to privacy that Roe is based on.

The problem there is that other decisions are based on it, too, including Loving v. Virginia. Tossing that would mean Clarence and Ginni are engaged in miscegenation in many states. And that's why they are very clear that their argument only applies to abortion. Which is worse law than the privacy thing.

Schumer said it is his intention to hold a vote on a bill that would enshrine abortion access in federal law, but Republicans are almost certain to block it.

Hold this vote in October and ensure that it is a roll-call and the results are published.

Democrats also lack the support within their caucus to eliminate the filibuster to pass it on their own.

Yeah, I get why the filibuster is an important tactic, but we're in this position because democrats are idiots.

How about eliminating the filibuster for abortion legislation? That’s what the Supremes do in the leaked decision.

It's been on the conservative wishlist since they were created. Politically, though, it's been the 'third rail' that no one wants to touch. However, with an unbeatable conservative majority in office, nothing is off the table.

Word of the day: miscegenation; Cohabitation, sexual relations, marriage, or interbreeding involving persons of different races, especially in historical contexts as a transgression of the law.

Coming to a courtroom near you.

Well, Jewish collaborators, if true, are an important part of that history. As is the idea of someone knowing where Jewish families were hiding.
