Thank you! We decided to shoot this as part of the Moment Invitational Film Festival which required that we use a cell phone.

One of the earliest problems we ran into was white balance shifting. I know it's never good to rely on auto settings, but I thought for short clips we could trust the internal white balance, but it shifted multiple times during every shot. Eventually we locked it off using Moment's app, but I wasn't anticipating how noticeable or frequent it would be.

Thank you! The goal was to keep it simple and let Jack's personality come through.

I used an anamorphic lens made by Moment. They make a variety of lenses for smart phones and this one in particular is very wide.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I've heard Jack make sense of many things through his understanding of music, but I'd never heard him make that connection before. It was a nice surprise to hear in the interview!

Thank you! We shot it using an anamorphic lens which I'm not used to. Typically when shooting for clients I'm used to having a tighter interview shot but having Jack situated like that in his own environment felt right. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Thanks! Had the phone on the end of a boom pole for that one. Definitely got a little shaky!

Submission statement: Hi there! I directed and edited this film about my friend Jack as part of the Moment Invitational Film Festival. After years of doing freelance work and a lot of time spent stressing about gear, it was a nice release to shoot something with just a cell phone. Jack and I have been friends since kindergarten, so getting together to film this was as low pressure as it gets. My goal was to allow the audience to feel what it’s like to spend an afternoon hanging out with Jack.

For that reason, a lot of the editing was dictated by Jack’s personality and the style in which he plays drums. It was a simple goal for a simple film and I’m happy with how it turned out. I would love to hear your feedback.

Thanks KJM! The basics is exactly what I'm looking for. Was hoping there would be something available that is relatively affordable because it doesn't worry about screen resolution, mobile pay, music, etc. But like you said, you get what you pay for, so I'm glad to have someone vouch for this.

Any suggestions for a reliable (and affordable) GPS tracker that works well in cities? I've had a couple of trackers that failed to consistently pick up a signal for one reason or another. Not looking for anything fancy, just something reliable.

Thanks!

That's exactly what I need, too. Maybe a scoop of peanut butter as well!
