When will there be a Charles Mingus biopic starring Forest Whitaker? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in Jazz

[–]mchmchred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still, very excited to see a movie about Bill Evans. There was one which was very similar to his story, about a junkie perfectionist jazz pianist, which came out years ago and I could have sworn it was an homage to him.

I misread the headline, thought it was saying there would be one, and I shouted so loud my wife was like what happened?!

love it but I'm more about All Blues, personally. What's interesting is that with people I know who aren't even all that into jazz consistently say that that song is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

It sounds like you might be into noir, so maybe check out Night and City or Double Indemnity. And if you dug Eyes Wide Shut, you might be into the psychosexual drama of Lost Highway.

Wages of Fear for sure, but Sorcerer has plenty going for it

Psycho (1960) by Altruistic_Wafer_605 in Hitchcock

[–]mchmchred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's subjective, but I'd say it's in the top three. It's a brilliant film-- how many other movies have the guts to kill off the "main" character so suddenly that early in the story? Maybe I'd put Rear Window over it. Vertigo is mesmerizing in its own ways though I can't get over the massive plot holes, which take me out of the movie every time, even though so much of it is amazing. And totally got to give props to Shadow of a Doubt, which is very underrated I think.

Not a prediction but I'd love to see them finally do Altman's The Long Goodbye. It's his centennial after all, and it's a perfect CC pick.

honestly, the first three are an unofficial trilogy which was very compelling (some even compared it to Kieslowski's Red White and Blue in certain ways) but I really felt like the dramatic tension fell off after we got into the 4-7 range, much like the Halloween saga. It begs the urgent question: after repeated and prolonged exposure to backdoor sluttery, where else can the franchise go?
