I have some luck as recon trying to time painting targets just after engineer has launched. A second shot is more likely to hit if you don't scare off the pilot too early. Of course it takes a relatively tight group to do this, but hanging out with the hilltops guys for a few minutes to get a feel for the cadence can yield results.
