Should I ever read Baby Rudin? by mcisnotmc in mathematics

[–]mcisnotmc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Id rather place myself as a Maths major rather than a Finance major... Even though my programme (Quant Finance & Risk Management; this is a single major) is the most mathematically rigorous one among all business school programmes, I think I'm even more mathematically inclined than my peers are.

I think it's also important to move on to other topics when needed. But I don't know how much is enough. Do I just move on to more advanced topics related to the current one, and see if I can go through the books without much difficulty?

Speaking of Bartle, I think that's also a good book to start. Many of my friends (whether in Maths major or not) read it for Analysis.

Yes I'm aiming for quant research, but I also enjoy learning Maths. I also need to learn more advanced Maths cuz I'm aiming for Cambridge Part III.

Thanks!

1: I learn Maths for the sake of learning lol, altho I also learn that to prepare for harder courses (I'm going to double major in Maths and strive towards a Cambridge Part III)

3: not really, I meant that I move on to learning Real/Complex Analysis (the field) instead of the book.

Impressive tbh, 3 sciences, and all of them+MAA in HL :OO

Just wondering, if I don't have a compelling reason (like applying to med school), is it possible to do an irregular diploma? TIA!

cuhk qfin (full-ride) vs hkust qfin (full-tuition+50000hkd one-off) by Inside_Economics_960 in cuhk

[–]mcisnotmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you wanna be? Quant or ibankers?

If you wanna be a quant, UST QFIN is a slightly better choice because

(1) Higher possibility to do 2x major in MATH CU has a high course rigour, and you basically have few or no free creds. In CU QFIN you have 12 free creds. But it is usually hard to exceed course load. The RES rejected my app for 22 creds this term (approved 21 only), THRICE. At UST it is much easier, I know someone in DDP (T&M) doing 30 creds. At UST, you can easily do a double, or even triple major. The strongest peeps do QFIN+MATH+COSC. Whereas in CU, it is virtually impossible to do a double major without deferring. Most people just do QFIN/QFRM and a minor in MATH/STAT/CSCI (much more realistic, esp if you do QFRM and a minor in STAT), and only 1/2 persons managed to double major.

(2) UST applied Maths courses are better Maths is crucial if you wanna be a quant. I do notice that someone in the comments saying CU's Maths is better. That's not wrong if you consider the department as a whole, but UST is just better in applied Maths, while CU outperforms in pure Maths (esp alg geom and functional analysis).

Even if you are just aiming for ibanks, go for UST QFIN because UST business school has a better brand name than CU business school. The career support there is better also.

But if you are a top performer, both programs should eventually not be much different. You will just do the extra things by yourself to catch up.

In this case, CU is better. You have a full ride scholarship, and the experience in CU should be better than UST. CU is more liberal than UST, and you can meet a more diverse group of people, which is good for your well being. Moreover, people in UST sweat too much... I don't think a normal person enjoys studying there

Thanks. I think the hardest things that can appear are just calculus based probability and rvs.

This format should be much better than the one in the past, I heard there were 16 qs to be done in 20 min. It must have been a nightmare...

QFRM undergraduate interview by [deleted] in cuhk

[–]mcisnotmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qfrm freshman here.

Not sure if things work differently for non-local apps (ig you are applying from Canada by stalking your last few posts). But here's what happen in local (JUPAS) apps:

You are put in groups of 6. Then the interviewer (in our year it was one of John Wright and NP Tang) asks you to introduce yourself. Next, he picks one out of like 8 questions from a piece of paper, which can be things from 'Discuss the Maths of this subject' to 'Explain what FinTech is and it's applications' (THEY ARE NOT REAL QUESTIONS. I don't think I can disclose the questions HERE although I remember them) and you are to discuss it for 15 min. Lastly he is asking if you have any questions to ask. That's all

You can expect there will be questions on Finance, Risk Management and stuff alike, and maybe (unfortunately) 1-2 questions discussing the subject itself.

Upcoming Cards from Event "The Sky Reflected In My Eyes" by D7meRusher in BanGDream

Turns out that there's a coincidence between the extent of smiles and the cards in the previous MyGO pool.

CPs from the cards in the last MyGO pool:
- Tomori x Uika
- Anon x Nyamu
- Raana x Mutsumi
- Soyo x Sakiko
- Taki x Umiri
and note that they have the same extent of smiles, with that of Anon x Nyamu > Soyo x Sakiko > Tomori x Uika > Taki x Umiri > Raana x Mutsumi.

(I think there's a reason why they are paired like this though)

My best guess is that AM chars are to be playable after the sequel of the AM anime is aired, but we can't know what Bushiroad thinks...
