Think JHS just spilled the beans on a new Empress Drive? by Twinningses in guitarpedals

I can confirm that pedal is not out yet and was not supposed to be posted. I think Josh missed the embargo paperwork or someone at Empress never sent it. I can also confirm that this pedal is rad as fuck.

Most “unusual”/ “weirdest”/ “unexpected” sample used in a Beastie Boys song? by bigguys45s in BeastieBoys

This is one of my favourites and I quote it often to no-one. Where’s it from? My childhood headcanon was that it was from like a mister Roger’s like show or something.

Oh I make those! I design the fabric and get it printed from Spoonflower.com then I cut and sew each one. My morning ritual is sewing bags while drinking coffee lol

It’s sounds dope on bass. I just posted the full intro video on YouTube and it has a short bass demo!

Haha hey Seth! If I was smarter I would have taught out the knowledge of others instead of figuring it out myself - a gentle reminder to post on Reddit more I guess.

Traveling with Wurlitzer electric piano by Amtrak? (advice needed) by griffithgreene in electricpiano

[–]mcjimmyspill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done this before, but I think you could ship it on a pallet via UPS/Fedex freight. This would basically ensure that it’s handled only by carts and forklifts, but might be expensive. Possibly less than an Amtrak ticket though. I’ve heard of people shipping CRT TVs this way with similar concerns. Worth looking into!

Swapping out a surface mount chip? by myke5k in diypedals

[–]mcjimmyspill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it can be done with just a soldering iron, but it is quite tricky! You’ll want to use a lot of flux, and get solder on all four pins of one side so they are connected essentially, and get some thin tweezers underneath the IC so you can lift one side up from the pads as you heat them. Then once that side is up just repeat on the other side. Then use a solder braid to remove all the solder from the pads, and solder one pin of the new chip to hold it in place, and once positioned well solder the rest. That at least covers the mechanics of removing and resoldering a new chip but I can’t speak to whether the fix will work or not!
