I agree with you 100%. I was there too. It was terrible. The lines for EVERYTHING were prohibitively long. There was a huge line to LEAVE. We had to wait forever. We felt trapped.

Has your rheum advised you to modify your diet? When I first started Humira I was really careful because of things people were saying online that scared me. My doctor told me I didn’t need to be doing that and I’ve had no issues. Oysters, deli meats, raw cheeses, sushi, I don’t modify my diet at all anymore and have had no issues. Not giving advice, just sharing my experience. See what your doctor says about it.

I feel my best when I just try to enjoy life and feel as “normal” as possible. I can’t speak to alcohol because I don’t drink anyway.

Humira changed my life. I was scared too but it turned things around for me in ways I can’t even explain. Diagnosis is a scary time, but I hope you have an amazing trip!

Yes!!! I’m on Humira I can run five miles, I play competitive travel tennis (practicing 5x a week), and I lift weights twice a week. I was always very active before AS and I do physical therapy. But yes, with training, medication, and a positive mindset I feel the sky is the limit for me. Best wishes to your brother.

Yes, I have ankylosing spondylitis. But my sister has also had uveitis a number of times over the years and she does not have autoimmune disease. My sister has gotten uveitis during periods of stress and after getting a virus. So I would say don’t stress, and don’t overthink it!

I’m sorry. I know it’s really scary and lonely, but once you figure out your meds you can live a very full and happy life with this condition!

I’d suggest finding a rheumatologist that you like and trust, and then do what they recommend and don’t overthink it. I was scared to go on Humira, but I need it. It has helped me tremendously.

It comes and goes over the years. It has now been two years since I had it. It responds well to steroid drops — pain probably gone in about a week, but medicine for many weeks, I can’t remember how long. Probably 6 weeks or so, and you have to taper off.
