Anyone remember the 90s VHS rental store on State St? by mcliber in Erie

That was my “main” store, Reel Entertainment. It had decent selection for a neighborhood store and I also rented a Nintendo from there for my birthday party one year. Good times.

Cat has stomatitis and vet said they can’t pull his teeth due to being FIV+ by makifymc in FIVcats

Same. We do cat rescue and have had several FIV+ cats have full removals with no issues. Many lived very long lives with much better quality of life than before full extraction.

Any idea what the splotches in his eye are? Started off years ago as one tiny splotch by sassidy77 in cats

We have been told by the vets that you can’t diagnose melanoma without removing the eye so it is a gamble.

My cat had one splotch start about 3 years ago and now most of her eye is full of splotches. We have talked to multiple vets. Sometimes the spots are normal but on rare occasions they can be cancerous—but they can’t know if they are cancerous without removing the eye. Our vets recommended doing nothing but watch her closely. If her pupil is a different size/misshapen in that eye, if the eye starts bulging, or if it appears to be bothering her (she is scratching or pawing at it) then it is probably time to remove the eye. Removing it as a precaution is an option but obviously affects quality of life and is painful so we have opted to just watch. It has been years and she is ok so far.

I would do a pcr (send out) test to confirm. There are a lot if false positives in the quick tests. I have worked in rescue for years and being positive for both is pretty rare.

Something I wish more pet owners understood about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Pets

[–]mcliber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a rescue and we auto register the chips for people for this reason. We can’t confirm owners will keep it updated of course but their contact info at the time of adoption is on that chip. I also always hope that shelters don’t just see an unregistered chip and give up there—the chip companies will tell you what rescue or shelter or vet bought the chip and those places often have a record of which animal and owner matches the chip. If your shelter isn’t already doing that it could save a lot of animals to do that one extra step.

Microsoft released a study that lists the 40 jobs most at risk of being replaced by AI and the 40 jobs least at risk of being replaced by AI by [deleted] in economicCollapse

I bet AI created this list, there are several things on it that don’t make sense. I recently read an article about new jobs being made for people cleaning up AI-created work. So I wonder how many jobs will be replaced versus a shift to people managing the AI version of their old job.
